I'm posting this here because Taylor didn't reply to my comment on youtube about this. While I appreciate her work at least covering the fediverse, I think its worth noting she isn't actually engaging with the fediverse with this post.

Posting this here in some hope it can gain traction and get her attention. maybe repost to Mastadon if thats something you do?

I'd like to invite Taylor to come to either Mastadon or Lemmy and do an AMA to discuss her video and the topics it contains further.

Why make a left right thing out of this? Shouldnt conservative minds also have their problems with this tech potentially killing 70% of jobs?

the tech isnt killing 70% of jobs. its not going to.

Everything it does is kind of their dream.

Yes this impacts everyone and everyone should be concerned. But the solution is in mass politics, not in "electing" another death cult leader. The conservative framework is fundamentally unable to address this issue.

Edit: after watching the video I would say the title reflects her audience.

Conservatives actually embraced the fediverse en masse a few years ago. It didn't stick though. Truth Social is actually a walled-garden Mastodon instance.

Oh, and none of them knew what they were doing and signing up for.

Did they actively embrace the idea of federated open source software, or did they just quickly need a ready to use platform after Trump was banned from twitter? In a way, even if we dislike their politics, this is free software working as intended: anyone can use the code for any purpose and modify it to their liking.

Oh it was just that they needed a platform once he was banned. Like I said, it didn't take.

Yeah I checked out her mastodon and it's pretty active and she's been on mastodon for 10 years, which is a mighty long time for any fediverse account.

I'm not sure you can have civilized discourse with sloppers. They're vicious aggressive insecure brittle power-trip prone and take everything as an attack after spending so much time talking to the mechanical sycophant. You can't talk to these people. I'm not even sure they still are people.

This is the first time I heard the term "good AI". Is that a term people use?

But I wonder what Fediverse software she's talking about. I mean we definitely have interoperability. But moving accounts (portability) is kinda notoriously difficult. A lot of platforms don't support it, or don't support it well... It is supported by Mastodon but you really want to read the 2-3 pages of extra information because it's not entirely seamless... It's not the first thing that comes to my mind when talking about why the Fediverse is great.

I really like the overall message, though. Also: always remember we don't have to subscribe to some extremes. It rarely needs to be 100% boycot while not doing anything else to change the bigger picture... Or on the other end of the extremes: 100% demand the government do something while continuing to endulge in doomscrolling sessions on TikTok and X... I think something in the middle would be great. Keep your Instagram account if you like... Use it a bit less, in turn use the Fediverse a bit more... And spend some time molesting your representatives. Tell them it's about time to regulate big tech. Or to get a bit of our personal data back under our control. Would also be nice if one day Jeff Bezos paid more taxes than me... Just saying.
