For one week, all things OVERGROWN, the new Blender full length open movie are free. The content gallery is now open to anyone curious about how this project is coming together.

The painterly shadow node is insane, hard to believe they are giving it out for free... aaaaaand... it's not included in the free week content. Of course.

I don't think it is completely beyond my skill but I rather have something made and tested by a node wizard. At least one valuable info they share is that it is adapted from brush outline node similar to one from Wing It. Fixing self shadow with ray length will not work on EEVEE either :'( might be able to hack away with raycast node somehow.

Given that the blender studio uses mostly development versions, I believe there may be a connection with the 5.3 new Light accumulation node.
I saw Cartesian Caramel use it to make shadows that adjusted to a voronoi pattern

Main branch? Yes. Experimental branch? Probably not.

Looking at Light accumulation node you mentioned, it lives in another experimental branch and node tree is a completely different beast. The improvement to the NPR workflow will be huge. Although I can't see myself using it heavily soon. I will try it out once it is in main behind experimental flag or later.
