And nothing bad has ever happened to it. It looks brand new and is always clean. Does anyone not shower with it?

I do not. I put it on the charger before I shower and then while I dry my hair and by the time I'm ready to go to bed I pop it back on.

[–] melancholy_dood@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I put it on the charger while I’m in the shower.

[–] glytxh@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s built for swimming

It’s not built for hot water and soap

[–] Koleckai@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have never taken mine into the shower. It would feel weird to me. I usually place it on a charger while I am showering.

[–] andersostling56@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Every time.

It irritates my skin when my watch band gets wet. I don’t even wash a few dishes with my watch on. How are y’all full on showering with it on? It doesn’t irritate at all?!

Showering is when I take it off to charge it, unless I'm getting back from a really sweaty run, in which case I'll shower with it on to give the band (I almost exclusively wear sport loops) a good soap and rinsing.

Yeah I shower with my Apple Watch too, helps me keep track of time (I mean it is a watch lol)

[–] TB2k17@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I usually charge it while I get ready in the morning, but every few days I will shower with it to clean it

Electricity with water, you know how that goes

[–] Legitimate-Sky-161@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Mine only comes off to go on the charger or if I’m doing something where it may end up smashed. Ocean, hot tub, shower , rain, snow it still works as it did the day I bought it.

[–] leo_sheppard_85@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Series 8 have showered with it and timer activated to get moving.

I know it's IP68 certified, but I still don't take unnecessary risks and being in a hot and steamy environment with other chemicals seems risky to me. If I'm going to be around a bunch of water, the watch stays off my wrist.

[–] OttersAreCute215@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I always take my Apple Watch off when I shower.

I’ve owned mine for about 3 years and i’m not risking it anymore. The water seal degrades over time. So now I charge it instead

[–] Fresco2022@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No. In the long run water resistancy will diminish. So, you cannot be sure when something bad does happen.

[–] fanaticalcraze@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The one thing to watch out for with the shower is at one point Apple had a disclaimer about high pressure water being bad for the internals. But that's like making the Death Star shot successfully.

[–] Kairismummy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Take mine off to bath/shower because if the soap. But I do swim either it on because it has swim mode!

[–] blastmemer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No but not because of potential damage. The water causes a lot of butt dials and so I ended up singing a lot of songs to my friends (luckily the water didn’t get past the favorites list).

[–] Centavar83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

First, as others have written-this is when I charge it. And second (and from experience with my Series 4)-it tends to build up impurities from the minerals and the hardness of the water.

[–] JesseRodOfficial@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I used to do it but now I’m afraid it will break lol.

[–] Zachriaul@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

i shower with my apple watch every day and it's been fine. it always looks clean and brand new. anyone else shower with it?

[–] Legitimate_Quote_239@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I shower with mine everyday. Rubber style band so I don’t mind. Plus I’m an electrician and it keeps it clean.

[–] rdhatt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I do not, only because I have the nylon "Sport Loop" band which stays wet too long for my comfort.

[–] PikaTar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I shower with it 2 out of 3 days. The 3rd day, I put it on the charger for a little bit. The only time I don’t is if I am using a nylon band. It dries quickly but I’d rather not wait and just take it off.

[–] FearIsStrongerDanluv@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just out of curiosity is there anything to measure or any benefit in showering with it? Or you forget you have it on? When do you charge it then?

[–] Application-Forward@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wear mine in the pool, but charge it when I’m in the shower

[–] grither88888@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve showered daily, used my hot tub and pool at least daily with my series 4 since I bought it new. Never had an issue but had an unrelated small scratch on the screen

[–] JThunder95@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does Siri still work on it? It doesn’t work on my Series 7 anymore. I don’t even use a case on it.

[–] iWish_is_taken@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I shower with mine after a mountain bike ride to clean the sweat and grime from the watch and band. So generally a couple times a week.

[–] marcelocampiglia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wash the Apple Watch after every workout, but I don't shower with it, I take it off and wash it independently.

[–] SoCalDawg@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don’t mix my gadgets with steam.. even ‘water resistant’ ones.

[–] onochie22@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mistakenly washed mine with other clothes in the laundry. It came out nice and clean.

[–] NeighborhoodPlane794@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I swim nearly every morning and take long hot showers daily. Have for years. Nothing ever happened to my watch. This comment section is the first time I’ve ever heard people say hot water and shampoo could damage

The soap will ruin it and void warranty

[–] lobsterp0t@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I shower with it fairly often! But usually I charge it when I plan to be showering.

[–] catdad23@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have to shower with my watch on (Ultra), if not I’ll be in the shower too long pretending I’m Aqua Man

[–] StorytellingGiant@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I did the same for years, until my S6 must have finally had moisture intrude into the power button.

Know what that does? It calls 911 - repeatedly.

I thought it dried out days later, charged it back up, and still wanted to call 911.

I now wear a S8 and won’t shower with it.

[–] Swankyyyy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Apparently exposure to soap has the potential for degrading the seal over time, so I usually try not to though I have done it at times.

[–] migsmog@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Shower with mine because it helps me get out the door on time. Also a great time to wash the Watch. I usually charge it in the evenings when I get home from working out after work. I put it back on before bed.

[–] Stjjames@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wear it in the shower.

Not losing out on counting those bathroom/shower steps.

[–] sammy-a123@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You’re living life on the edge. I know they say it’s water resistant but I don’t want to risk it.

[–] DUNGAROO@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So while it’s true it’s fine to go swimming in shallow waters (which I think Apple defines as 5 meters) with an Apple Watch, I would avoid showering with it for 2 reasons:

  1. Water pressure. The seals in the Apple Watch can keep water out at “normal “ pressure, but the water coming out of your shower head is hitting the watch at a speed that can exceed the force the seals are designed to repel water. Hit the watch with a stream of water form the shower head at the wrong angle and water can get inside.
  2. Surface tension. Soap works by combining with water molecules to lower the surface tension of the soapy solution, which allows it to penetrate things better than non-soapy water cannot- stubborn dirt, grease, the surface of your skin, and yes, the seals in your Apple Watch.

That said, I shower with my Apple Watch Series 5 every day and it’s fine. (Sort of- it reboots randomly, but I think that have more to do with the incompatibility of the latest watchOS with older Apple Watch models, since the behavior started right after I upgraded to watchOS 10)

I plan on replacing my watch next year anyway. If my watch was newer and especially if it was still under warranty, I would take it off before getting in the shower. They do have indicators that tell repair techs whether or not water penetrated the case and if so, they will refuse to repair it unless covered by AppleCare+.

[–] Cocas-Colas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve been showering with my Apple watches for years (sounds dirty, it’s not 🙃). Series 2, 6 and 7. Never had any problems with them.

I’ve also been swimming with them several times. It even has a swimming activity in the workouts app, so it should be fine as long as your watch isn’t damaged.

[–] theyahd@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have to take it off to charge some time. Best time is when it would be in my way scrubbing my skin
