I recall seeing his name and thinking to myself, “that’s not the kind of name you hear uttered by announcers during the Super Bowl.”
Chicago Bears
John Fox 2.0
People that were excited liked the idea of a CEO head coach from a Lovie Smith adjacent HITS/loafs background as long as we got a good OC.
I wasn't excited at all about the hire, but what made me worry most was that Ryan only interviewed him. In hindsight that was a good concern and also brings into question why Ryan would go along with it if he was confident in his abilities to attract another GM job. They don't open up very often because if you screw up you typically don't get another chance. That makes it even more important to wait for the right opportunity.
Pissed it wasn't Harbaugh.
I was trying to find the why
Ummm……okay I guess
Indiana was struggling even with a great o line and Flus was a relative unknown in average fan world. Didn't expect much other than a steward while the ship is rebuilt. Sorry Flus, not personal.
Who dat
Idk about consensus, but I thought he sounded way too Coachy McCoachface with the HITS stuff and was worried he would lack substance and analytical strategy. I was willing to give him a chance, but it seems the apprehension was warranted. He needs to be gone.
‘oh, this guy? alright let’s see how it goes. At least it’s not nagy.’ was every persons reaction
The media ripped the hire. They thought an offensive minded HC was better for the development of a young QB. They were right.
My Indy friends were happy he wasn’t their DC anymore…. So I was concerned.
As others said, he was an unknown at the time. But I did a survey before last year and 86.3% of y'all said he was a good hire.: https://ibb.co/k5fVTRz
The people I listen to were cautiously optimistic, then worried as soon as he started talking about his "HITS" principle
I’d never heard of him but was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s all dried up now
I remember thinking they really did fire Matt and Ryan only to hire Matt and Ryan. Felt very bears even if it was just namesake.
My reaction was just "Wait and see." I had no idea whether he'd be good or bad.
Disappointment
“Who?”
Didn’t like it at all. I don’t get why teams hire coaches off teams that are just trash. Colts haven’t been relevant since that stupid Super Bowl.
It was kind of like when you're incredibly hungry and someone serves you a bowl of unflavored oatmeal. Its better than nothing but not by much
Who?
I literally didn’t know who he was when they hired him
I was very underwhelmed. The stupid HITS thing just sounded ridiculous.
