I liked Touch ID, but FR is so much better.. I’m ok with them never bringing it back

I think they should add it to the power button like the iPad Air 4/5 and the iPad 10th Gen. :)

Face ID totally replaced it, if anything it should be both, with Touch ID being in the powerbutton

they had created an touchID button on ipad’s, they must do it in new iphone, it’s the coolest feature imo

Having had Android phones with top-notch fingerprint scanners and now a 15PM for a month, I prefer the fingerprint scanners. Face ID is fine too, and it’s only a slight preference, but I would prefer an iPhone with touch ID (as long as it was in a sensible place - Androids tend to have it on the back where your finger naturally falls when you hold the phone, no need to reach for the screen)

There’s definitely an argument that having both world be ideal but Apple being Apple that would push the pricing higher. Personally I enjoy FaceID. Touch ID is convenient in bed when reaching over to look at something on phone on bedside table without having to properly pick it up as with Face ID you need to be looking straight(ish) at the screen and have attention. Also I’m using my Quest 3 with pass through and can use phone well like that but obvs FaceID won’t work so I’m back to code entry there.

I had a phone with face unlock only during the pandemic and it was a pain when wearing a mask. Having both is essential, IMHO.

It’s worth mentioning that touchID delivers false positives more often than faceID, it’s just less secure

I want both. Touch ID is useful when not looking at the phone. Like when the phone is on the table

They're providing the same solution and it's unlocking the phone... well how phone unclockimg beign developed in the last years i don't think a fingerprint would be neded. They both have pros and cons and i think we're doing well with the faceID as you can unlock the phone with wet or dirty finger...!

They already tried to move to solid state buttons, so if touch id is incorporated into power button with haptic feedback that would be a better implementation, without losing a lot of space inside under the screen.

I used fingerprint Scanner in android phones for years but after switching to iPhone I don’t miss it at all

FaceId is leaps and bounds ahead of touchId and forever will be. One of the reasons why I wouldn't even consider Android phones is the lack of it. The reasons why I went with iPad Pro over any other model was the faceId, it's one of the best additions apple every made and I don't get how anyone who used it could think placing your finger in some spot to unlock your phone was ever better.

It’s would be great to have side mounted fingerprint scanner, they are better than underscreen ones

I am not against it on principle but I never ever missed Touch ID. I however miss Face ID on my iPad Mini having to touch the power button every time.

Apple really spoiled us out of nowhere with Face ID. Truly an example of a feature no one was asking for and we were content with just touch, but it’s so good it made even the awful notch worth it.

I can honestly say I miss 3D Touch more than I miss Touch ID. Does that mean they should bring that back?

One plus to TouchID is you can save 5 different fingers, so if you want multiple people to have access, it's pretty easy to do so.

Both my iPhone and family iPad are like that.

Have TouchID, but have it on the back of the phone. On display readers just aren't as convenient or as accurate.

It's always nice to have both. The pandemic showed us the shortcomings of FaceID when we use a mask. Having TouchID means we have another method of authentication that suits our needs.

The iPhone already has a big ass lock button, why not slap a fingerprint scanner on it. I could do with both Face ID and Touch ID. Just don’t use the glass coating on the scanner like on the iPad, the thing barely works.

TouchID is better than FaceID IMO. It only unlocks the phone if I want it to. If someone steals my phone, I don’t want it to unlock because I’m looking at the screen when they take it. It also works better in bright sunlight, or if the phone is close to your face e.g. when lying in bed

Face ID should remain the standard sensory unlock, but it would be a good idea to add an underneath the screen Touch ID sensory unlock feature. either have both or just Face ID in my opinion.

Looking at this comment sections, I still don't understand why it's a bad idea to have more than one options. Like come on, if you don't like it, you don't need to use it. If you don't like Touch ID, then just don't use it? But for us who wants to have it, let us has an option to have it. The same goes to sideloading.

FaceID is more secure in theory. With TouchID, if you’re asleep, all someone has to do is place your finger on the sensor and they’re in your phone. FaceID needs open and moving eyes although some people look enough alike to fool it.

When I had an iPhone 12 the Face ID was slow and unreliable, and I wanted touch back. I just got the 15 and it’s quick and seamless, no need for Touch ID imo

Another feature that will ultimately add +% to the final price in the next iPhone.
Has this feature suddenly become popular on iPhones again? Fashion is cyclical.
