is it not possible to pick up Fields fifth year option to keep them around for another year, while you draft the top QB prospect? You could then trade whichever one doesn’t work out. sounds crazy but crazier things have been done. Any thoughts?

It’s likely this is what the team will actually do.

I’m sorry to break all your hearts but Caleb Williams is just Justin fields but whiny and immature

I want bears to trade back a tad, land more O line talent, edge rushers, and a wr. Love how the secondary is shaping up with the new young core, but I miss Roquan roaming the middle. Fields has the talent to build around. Chi town has never had more potential at qb. I have spoken.

Good question - I guess you’d need to determine how drafting Williams would improve the roster if you’re keeping Fields as the starter and Bagent as the backup.

Drafting MHJ, an EDGE, DT, or OL would immediately improve the roster and that position.

Also if you were to trade Williams later on the value is likely lower in what you receive in return then the aforementioned other position that you would’ve drafted.

A. Draft a QB who has been heralded as generational and will be on a rookie contract for the next 5 years

B. Keep a QB who we've seen be WILDLY inconsistent, suck in crunch time, and whose play style and injury history make him incredibly risky to build around

Come on now. The answer is clear

Mostly because mhjr could be the next true generational talent. You don’t give up just about a sure thing for qbs marginally better at best.

[–] xtow16@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

because QBs can singlehandedly elevate their team to Super Bowl contenders and WRs don't

Man who chase two rabbit catches none. Also, you can't be half pregnant. Either justin is our guy or he's not. If we draft a qb in the first justin is not our guy.

[–] Adnonymus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No. Either Fields stays and we draft other positions, or he’s traded and we draft Williams. I’ve said this before and I’m sticking to my prediction that Fields will be traded for a 2nd round pick and Poles will draft Williams. Hate me all you want Fields truthers, but this is what is gonna happen unless for some miraculous reason the Panthers win 3-4 games to drop out of the top 5. But if things stand as they currently are, #1 isn’t being traded again, it will be Williams.

This definitely doesn't maximize the use of the Bears resources, but it does lower the risk of them having crappy QB play. It likely increases the number of games the Bears win next year vs going with a rookie too.

It's probable that neither QB would like this plan, but both would likely still get playing time next season due to injuries.

I personally would go with this plan, but know it's pretty unpopular. Fields could be awesome, but if he's not then this is the best chance to get a top QB prospect. If both are awesome then the Bears have the opportunity to trade one of them to get some value, and if only one is good, then the Bears still end up with a good QB.

Fields 5th year option isn't for next year its for the year after

[–] MrGerb1k@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If they draft a QB, they’re trading Fields.

There's bigger needs than wasting a 1st on a shorter version of Justin. MHJ, Jer'zahn Newton, or Olu. Take a center (I like Van Pran) in the 3rd. Keep Bagent as QB2 and maybe go after another guy way late (KJ Jefferson/McCall/Hartman)

If fields can’t read multiple options, has shown to focus one mainly one wr so another too wr is pointless. The wr group with the TE group is top ten in the NFL. also if he needs the best weapons group and best offensive line in the nfl to succeed then he is the issue.

The Bears offense is solid right now with the qb being the weakest spot. He also hurts the running game as teams mainly focus on the run since fields is great at that. This offense is going to be so exciting in years to come.

If they insist on keeping Fields, everyone outside if Bears and Ohio state fans think is a mistake, then focus should be on the defense. That offense is only going to get better.

[–] km222555@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He's also gotten much better at going through reads. It's almost like you watched the first 2 games of the season and quit watching

[–] RemingtonSnatch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The shine's worn off Caleb Williams.

[–] tripbin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because that would be stupid. There's a reason teams don't do this. It's a distraction. Shit we go ape shit over practice squad QBs. Do we really want our rookie QB getting yells to be replaced with fields because he has a slow start and Fields Stan's are parasocial as fuck? Na, move on and try to learn from mistakes.

Next year is Fields' 4th season

Pick up the option and draft a day 3 QB bc I'm not sold on any of the 2 top QBs in the draft and taysom is a good backup at best rn. Continue to build around Justin. If he is him, agree to pay a premium when you need to resign him. If he is not, I don't trust this organization to develop a new quarterback anyway. I'd rather go the route of acquiring a veteran like a Stafford, Peyton Manning to Denver, type situation.

I think my biggest concern and this isn’t a direct answer to this question so I apologize. But my concern is who’s developing these offensive talents. As a die hard Bears fan, it’s exhausting to watch year after year an offense that underperforms, players not playing / reaching their full talent and potential. Bad schemes , play calling, in-game adjustments , late game adjustments. This falls on coaching and player development. I watch a team like the Houston Texans as this seasons progressed and you see a lot of young talent on the offensive side of the football that has really started this season (especially the last 5 games) that has flashed signs of brilliance. Stroud, Tank Dell, Nico Collins are all first or second year players exceeding expectations and showing great chemistry. It’s not perfect , but my point is here you see these guys are being well coached, being put into situations to “be themselves” , but also be well coached , and the high IQ and chemistry isn’t something in consistency the bears have had. I wonder if Stroud was a Bear would he be having the exact success he is as a Rookie in Houston? Te conclusion I come to is probably not. I’m open to everyone’s thoughts and opinions, just sharing my own. Please feel free to share your thoughts as well. Thanks all Bear Down 🐻
