The iPhone would still be 3.5”
Apple
A place for Apple news, rumors, and discussions.
unqualified BS
iPhone Aesthetics would be slightly different. No notch and I would guess the camera wouldn’t protrude so the phone can lie completely flat on a table
Nope and nope
lol so no front facing camera and no changes to quality of the cameras.
As if.
If anything. The type of design trends we saw (and largely hated) under Johnny Ive would have continued for longer under Steve.
Phones would likely be thinner and smaller.
lol so no front facing camera and no changes to quality of the cameras.
That’s really what you took from that statement?
Way to take that out of context.
I think we wouldn’t have seen such rushed and buggy iOS releases.
Max size phones would be interesting as one of the big design philosophies was being able to reach the whole screen with one hand.
I loved Steve Jobs. I could see a situation where Apple would miss the deadline for a new iOS update, and Steve would go out on stage and tell everyone that Apple is doing it the right way. And then point out how everyone else is doing it wrong. Like when he defended iOS not being able to have multiple apps open at once. He said something along the lines of “we aren’t going to put out mediocre updates like everyone else. Or how phones kept getting bigger, and he would say the iPhone is the perfect size and everyone else was messed up. He was such a great salesman and could spin any bad press around and make it look like Apple planned it all this way. RIP Steve!
Definitely lots of stainless steel…
No pro/base models, not a bunch of colors. Silver or space gray and probably 2 storage options. No max or mini either
no large screen iphone, SJ liked small phones
the app store wouldn't be as big as it is now because he was a control freak
the OS would still be simple because he was about having computers be as simple to use as the old 90's appliances because it was still early in computing
IOS wouldn't not be as integrated and have so many common features with other products
back in the SJ days apple was organized around products and the product teams all wrote their own software from a common code base they branched. Now apple is organized with software being separate from products and this is why we have texting on macbooks, etc
Smaller I reckon
No unsymmetrical camera bump.
I personally don’t think the many personalizations would have been added like the widgets and automations. It would have been a less buggy streamlined collection of preset automations for example. Those types of diy setups felt like a change in direction
iPhone would not have been included in PRISM ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM ) before Jobs' body reached room temperature -- he told the spooks to f*ck off while everybody else fell into line, including Zuckerberg.
I suspect they Shah of Iran'd him for it.
this thread is just dorks ascribing their own personal opinions and desires to a dead man
Comments here are mostly “Steve wouldn’t have had this thing I didn’t like” - most of them ignoring the drawbacks the iPhones had under Steve. Oh it would’ve been flat on a table? Like the 3G? It would’ve had a headphone jack? Because Stephen famously loved buttons and ports?
I think this is one of those things where people get to air their grievances with iPhone while not actually saying “I personally think (whatever) is terrible.”. They won’t get flamed as bad in the comments because they’re not saying it. They’re saying “It’s what Steve would have wanted.”
Steve was neurotic about certain specific things and it’s impossible to know what would have triggered him in the later iterations of Apple products.
He’d care about shareholders pockets too but maybe not as much as Tim. We’d have a proper iPadOS for years already. He’d actually try to inovate the smartphone business. And maybe the prices wouldn’t start from 1600 euros for a smartphone that has nothing above above the average Android phones.
He’d make phones not politics too 🤷♂️
I would like to think that the camera bump wouldn’t exist. I don’t think he’d put up with it
They wouldnt be coming out every year with only small changes to the iPhone . Now every dam phone maker seems to be doing it .sometimes its not the hardware that needs improving but the software
We would have stronger phones that would be basically unbreakable. There wouldn’t be crappy buggy iOs releases.
Steve ALWAYS cared about quality, design and the perfect user experience, and NOT taking a step backwards. I feel like Tim doesn’t much care if it’s two steps backward as long as Apple makes more money.
I would be surprised if Apple did't decide early on to make iOS built on-top of Android instead of the XNU based platform they have today.
I think the merge to full blown Macs would have happened by now, if not with phones; definitely iPads. With the M1 the fact that we aren't there at this point is almost inexcusable.
Steve wanted profits but he also seemed equally focused on innovations as well. Apple has become a profit forward company that seems to hold back innovations purely in the name of profits. Efforts on next-gen are stifled to fill tiny gaps so there's always room for the "next" thing; rather than setting sights high and pushing for another leap forward.
The delusion here is strong. Apparently the only thing holding us back from having credit card thin, flat iPhones with no notch and DSLR quality cameras is one belligerent tech executive.
And for all the money Apple now has this just isn’t something they’re interested in making
Looking at the iPhone and saying… sure would be better without the notch or camera bump.
Any idiot can do that. That wasn’t what made Steve Jobs an memorable tech figure
It'd be smaller and still have bezels
Remote app wouldn’t have been baked into the control center. There wouldn’t be swipe from top, swipe from near top, swipe from top but toward the corner… yadda yadda.
There would be a phone that fits in 1 hand.
We would still have Skeumophism.
I think a lot of things Apple has done today on the iPhone wouldn't have been allowed with Steve. The protruding camera and how the whole camera bump looks awkward, notch, and what the iPhone has become. Apple went from a company that was very focused on the product to a company that cares less about the product. Apple today seems like they only care about pumping out products and printing money and way less product focused. Personally, I don't think that's such a great look.
I think the phones would be smaller and the camera wouldn’t stick out
I think Steve would have transitioned the iPhone to USB -C when the USB macbook Pro was released. To allow seamless transition. And there would be no longer USB-A on any products.
Lighting connector would have been history by 2020 if Steve was still alive.
We wouldnt move to the flat design, steve was obsessed with that design full of details
The iphone x would also be way different
Probably wouldn’t be so phallic
