[–] Human_Alternative_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ll never understand watch buyers.

Just look at your phone bro.

[–] johnjung806@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Probably is not selling, that is a common sense question...

[–] mysteriousman38@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because of demand. Marketing 101

[–] FeslaS@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just ordered the AW2 for $730 👍🤩

[–] Unlifer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Don’t sell well I guess, my green series 7 was $50 cheaper than the other colors

[–] Fortified_Armadillo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Same reason I bought the blue series 7. Everyone goes for black or silver, saved me 50 bucks though.

[–] marcelocampiglia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Probably because it have less demand than the others

[–] rabouilethefirst@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Supply and demand

[–] driago@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

More importantly, why is any band for this watch more than $40?

[–] Carpenterdon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Even more so, why can't I buy just the watch without a band. By now anyone with an Apple watch has a favorite band they use full time or a drawer full for different uses.

[–] ItIsShrek@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Apple's philosophy with primary products at least (aka, not accessories like headphones and chargers), is that the device is ready to use out of the box for 99% of people. That's why most Mac desktops come with keyboards and mice, the mac mini is the one exception to this philosophy.

With the watch you can instantly wear and charge it out of the box, and it eliminates any strange non-techy gift givers buying the cheapest (bandless) one and giving it to someone only for them to be disappointed they have to buy a band separately - and it guarantees a baseline level of quality for that band so a crappy chinesium 50 cent aliexpress band doesn't snap and break the watch within the first week.

The band value is a minimum $50 from Apple, it's very, very easy to find them on sale for substantially less than that, or even cheaper used. After the S8 came out I bought a 45mm S7 Stainless steel, with box, charger, sport band, and 93% battery health for $290.

The white one gets really dirty and is very noticeable

[–] willingzenith@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Supply and demand deal maybe?

[–] tooclosetocall82@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Green band was how I got a good deal on an S7 a year ago. Green seems to be consistently cheaper and I never see any out in public. Probably related.

I bought it Day 1 over a year now. Glad to see that it is Holding its value. I do need a new Band though. I have been using the same Orange since Day 1. I do wash it regularly, but I am in need of something new Color wise.

I usually buy a Brand New Band every year since I do like getting the Official Bands.

[–] Imabidinghere@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Green is not a creative color

Because it’s cheaper

[–] rcuadro@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Maybe the color is not as popular 🤷‍♂️

Follow up question: is buying a gen-1 Ultra a bad idea with the 2 out?

[–] PineapplePizza99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Gen 1 Ultra is perfectly fine. The updates on the 2 are incremental.

[–] Lanky-Association952@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I bought this green one from Best Buy and an ultra 2 from Amazon for $740. Sounds like keeping the ultra for $650 is worth it. I don’t plan on upgrading for years and years so that’s the only thing making me want to keep the ultra 2.

[–] Teddyruxx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dunno why on earth u got downvoted?!? Have an upvote. Best deal I saw for an Ultra was on eBay, but they’re refurbs… still, from a company that sells a lot of them, and they’re guaranteed to have at least 85% battery. Can also always return if it’s not what you expected. For $485, fyi. I found it on slickdeals, if you need to find the specific link (you need to use a coupon code iirc) most folks there seem to think it’s a good deal.

Not at all.

Prolly less popular

[–] NekoLu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Why do you buy official bands? It’s a genuine question, no offense... I just bought apple watch a month ago, and when I wanted to buy metallic band like I had on my old smart watch, I was SO startled by these prices. Like Jesus freaking Christ, how can a band cost 1/4 of an expensive smart watch. Got a few different ones from AliExpress for like 9$ total, picked one that was the most comfortable, and wearing it for two weeks now

[–] LamarjbYT@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have sensitive skin, so for me I don’t wanna risk that.

[–] jackjohnbrown@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve never bought an official band on its own, but these come with the watch.

[–] slonaslona@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Likely irrelevant to most people, but a friend of mine had an aftermarket Nike band knockoff on his watch that wouldn’t come off. Bands got stuck to the watch somehow and when he went to Apple to get it fixed they refused the warranty work since it wasn’t an official Apple band.

$490 for open box wow

Based on my experience in products and how much you can sell them talking about factors the color is valued in tech (more in iPhone products)some colors do not have a wide market, some group of people may prefer the white one and the green one is left behind when choosing one based on that the market adjust the price and make the white one more expensive because probably they have a long list of green ones and less units in White so they are saying to the people “Hey buy one in green better we have a better price for it”. Its all about marketing

[–] Furneaux_j@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The green model is older, starlight is new release!

[–] Blauesocken@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nope both came out 2022
