I remember when we wanted to turn the iPod into an iPhone.

[–] Equal_Treacle9057@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why would you use that ? Two devices always is a big headache. Personally i hate it.

[–] medicalgringo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

An ipod without jack port

[–] Zito6694@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Why not just use your normal phone though?? It does all that

[–] far_dim_bledram@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If they get robbed theyd much rather their old iphone 7 be stolen than a brand new more valuable/expensive phone.

[–] memorable_client@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

15 is too big and I don't like running with it on my arm. I wish I still had my old iPod Nano, not sure why Apple stopped producing those.

Amazing simplicity! So when you get a text message, it doesn’t show here because you deleted the message app right?

[–] yabaiiiiii@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This looks beautiful

[–] Gho5tWr1ter@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m gonna do that my 7 as well! Thanks for your post!

[–] TottalyNotAProGamer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] Create_Arthur@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That’s how you use an iphone 7 in 2023 !!!

[–] Foxen--@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

What’s the app name? I searched tracker on app store and couldnt find it

[–] memorable_client@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's Strava and it works without internet access / SIM card!

[–] fvckyou2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] mad_vtak@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] No_Effective_5207@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Love it!! I may do the same with my old iPhone 7 too. Great idea 💡

[–] RobinH-007@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's awesome, and that's what I'm gonna do with my old iPhone 6s PS: I switched to Android recently

[–] far_dim_bledram@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It is awesome (did the same thing with a 6s) no need for being constantly interrupted by text messages or emails or other distractions while running/exercising

[–] volcom527@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Isn’t it a bad idea to keep old iPhones with the risk of their batteries expanding and exploding over time?

[–] far_dim_bledram@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Only if they are left in abnormal conditions (discharged for long time, plugged in all the time, hot/cold environments)

[–] IWasGregInTokyo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do this with my little old 5c.

Smaller the better.

[–] Haunting-Ad9507@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So you put some widgets on your home screen and thats the big deal?

[–] Hjknmw12@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's exactly what he's done lol.

[–] -raizel@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

i also have an iPhone 7 how to customise it ?

[–] Oldnoise81@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ll do this to my 13 mini…so perfect

[–] Alternative-Juice-15@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] spycodernerd2048@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] Acrobatic-Swan-1823@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What exactly can they do that could make it better?

[–] CrackisticAU@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I dont get why this is being downvoted

[–] solidhackerman@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I am doing the same but with Gen1 SE! It also has a 3.5mm so it is up for me. The only down is the battery but still, it gives me a solid 2 hours of screen on and around 4-5hrs standby

[–] far_dim_bledram@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Perfect for running

[–] SnooFloofs8124@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Beautiful phone

[–] Alternative_Case_878@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How do you milk sheep? Bring out a new iPhone and charge $1000 for it.

[–] Samuelbi12@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I'm just about to buy a 7 plus for 100€

[–] NoEnvironment5284@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I use an iphone 7 daily. I don’t have money for new one. I like it :)

[–] confused_cat44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just replace the battery and it wouldn't be that bad

[–] NoEnvironment5284@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes, I did it before. It’s better, but far from a new one

I've been using it as my main phone until I've got the 15. I've replaced the battery and it rocks!

[–] UGMadness@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

One of my biggest gripes with using old iPhones and iPads as offline media devices is that Apple is extremely stingy with storage space so most likely these old phones only have 16/32GB of storage, making them a pain in the ass to curate a media library in them.

If only they had expandable storage. But they don't even support mounting SD cards directly from an external adapter, you have to import the media in bulk, making them useless.

Maaan that sharp screen and case design made me wanna switch back from my 13pro! Hold me back people don’t let me do that silly move🤯

[–] Top_Specific_792@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Been using my 8 Plus for this reason.

[–] rajapaws@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's strong.

[–] Sieze5@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I love this. Serious question(s). Does it still have cell service? Im curious how the music will play and if you need to download the songs. And if the tracking and fitness has to wait and update when you get to WiFi.

[–] memorable_client@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No cell service. No SIM card. Strava tracks the runs via GPS and saves them, but then uploads them to the Strava profile upon connecting to the WiFi. I don't use Apple music subscription, I have my own music that I sync via iTunes...
