Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Hey everyone,

I'm reaching out for some guidance regarding retroactive encryption on my Synology DS1522+. Here's the situation: I have a substantial amount of data on my NAS that wasn't initially encrypted, and I'm now considering adding encryption for enhanced security.

Is it possible to apply encryption retroactively on the Synology DS1522+ without losing data? If so, what does the process look like? Are there specific risks or challenges I should be aware of when encrypting a volume retroactively on this model? Any best practices or tips would be greatly appreciated.
