Interested to know what everyone does when they have a formal date or wedding etc. do you wear your Apple Watch as is? Switch a band out? Go watch less? Switch to a nicer watch (Swiss, seiko) etc.

I’ll wear a metal/leather band. Mainly for me, don’t really care about what others think of it. A smartwatch is really common nowadays anyway.

As others have commented, I swap the watch band for a more formal one. Usually leather or titanium band. I also tend to change the watch face to a more formal one as well just for aesthetics.

It’s more noticeable when I don’t wear it because of the tan line.

Just change the watch face to something appropriate for the occasion.

Just silence notifications.

When I was a bridesmaid for my sister and wore it up on my bicep hidden by my sleeve.

Apple Watch when working out, or doing something that will be rough on the watch. Otherwise I’m pretty much always wearing an analog mechanical dive watch. These days it’s pretty much always my Tudor Pelagos 39.

Switch to a dressier band on my ultra. Don’t care if it still is not fancy enough.

I switch to self-modded Seiko SKX013 39mm SS on bracelet on more formal events. I wear AW Ultra 2 daily. It’s surprisingly 49mm AWU2 is still a lot lighter and more comfortable than mechanical watches. I can barely feel AWU2 on my wrist now. It’s like nothing there sometimes.

I used to get a little self conscious wearing them in formal dress situations years ago when they were newer. Now they are so mainstream nobody would think twice about it. I still will swap in a leather band for those situations now

I have an Apple Ultra and a 300$ Nomad Titanium watch band. I wear it with anything and don’t worry about it.

titanium band for occasions where I need to dress up otehr than that alpine loop always

In my opinion. If you are in a wedding party I would avoid wearing an Apple Watch and switch it out for something a little more timeless. I know when I take photographs of people I make them take their AW off just so it looks a little more timeless. A big computer on your wrist looks silly. But if you aren’t being photographed then AW is fine.

I wear an ultra all day long but if I’m in a formal party it’s being switched.

I always switch to a Swiss automatic dress watch for formal events.

[–] badger_flakes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have a couple metal bands I use for nice events sometimes.

I also have a nice watch I wear sometimes just because I love the watch

I wear my Apple Watch and change the face to match the occasion. My band is nice so no need to switch it out.

[–] ClarkTheCoder@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Only time I took it off when out was for bars/clubbing because I always felt a little out of place with it on. Everywhere else it stays on at all times aside from sleep

I have an Aluminum S8 that I wear for normal day to day. I have stainless steel S7 Hermes watch that I wear for formal occasions. I switch every face so green and about 15 bands

[–] Low_Presentation6433@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Now that is Apple love next level haha

It’s like wearing a seatbelt at this point after many years, only time it comes off is in the shower or pool

[–] StealthNider@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I still wear the watch, but am planning to get the Milanese Loop for more formal occasions

[–] Ajseps@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If looking like a spy kid is your thing I say wear an Apple Watch

[–] lovebot5000@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I might switch to my formal watch face.

[–] ruifao@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Without watch it’s impossible, I have a massive sun mark on my wrist because of the use. But yeah, I’ve change to a nicer band, and sometimes buy a new one. Like a woman who buy new shoes for a wedding 😅

[–] K-9_Handler_Drew@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I have a nice chain like band I wear for more formal events instead of my sport band.

[–] Allaboutnuthin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Where I am from, an $800 watch impresses them enough. I could pull out my $300 gold-plated Seiko, but then I won’t be able to ….

[–] light_90@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Depends on the wrist band

[–] patricia_iifym@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I do but switch out the band to my Gold Milanese Loop ☺️

[–] Xylophelia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For big formal things—my engagement photos, intending for my own wedding, etc, I wear the nice jewelry style watch I preferred prior to getting an Apple Watch. Yes, I plan to even at my wedding (mainly bc my very strong watch tan from 30 years of wearing a watch without fail means either makeup which risks staining or a different watch and I’d rather have a watch than not)

For other occasions, date nights etc, I just use a jewelry band on the Apple Watch and put it in movie mode to blackout the screen.

[–] SlippingStar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I use it as a heart monitor and mood logger, so it only comes off to charge during commute and shower. Milanese for work, dates, weddings, etc; Pride sports loop for most everything else except swimming (sports band) and hiking (protective case with band).

For decades, people have worn their Rolex Submarieners with a suit on formal occasions. Just because it's a slightly more expensive mechanical watch doesn't mean it's formally appropriate. The only place I would allow a Submariner with a suit would be an upscale buffet on a cruise ship. But nobody really bothers with that. And it's the same if you wear an AW Ultra to a wedding. Inappropriate but totally irrelevant

[–] Pandemic_19@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I wear my AW during a wedding. The bride and groom does not want anyone taking out phones because it can cause distractions. My Apple Watch is cellular, so it’s not a problem for me
