Trump further predicted that he will not be convicted on the federal charges stemming from the documents case. He also stressed that he would not accept a plea deal unless he was presented one "where they pay me some damages."

Is this an attempt to set up an insanity defense?

No, Trump is just so narcissticly stupid that he genuinely believes he is right and that he is owed for the inconvenience of our governments attempt to treat him like a common citizen.

bruh, in the u.s. we still live in a time when people of color are rightly scared to be gunned down during a simple traffic stop and this man can ask for some money after consciously leaking our country's secrets and safeguards. i really hope we can hold him to the law.

And a significant portion of the deplorables^tm^ would vote for him again. It's crazy times.

Jesus Christ, he is willing to sell anything.

Bold statement considering that the prosecutors have boxes of evidence piled all the way up to to the chandeliers.

[–] DevCat@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

They have it piled higher than the toilet paper it was next to.

I'm gonna give him credit for three things of value he's contributed to society.

A. He brought the Fascist out of hiding. Better to know your enemy is at your doorstep than lying in wait.

B. He's made the dictionary much smaller by giving a single definition for so, so many words - narcassist, conman, grifter, selfish, demagogue, fool, sexist, racist, idiot, seditionist, violator, cheater... The list just keeps going. They should all just say "see Trumpism"

C. He's successfully rallied young Americans to be more engaged in voting than any previous generation, ensuring that if we can just get past this hurdle, the future can be bright.

Kinda ballsy to ask for a payout when he's being hit with dozens of Espionage Act charges. Have fun, Donny!

LMFAO! I broke the law so you have to pay me! This fucking carbuncle.

[–] MiddleWeigh@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Charlatan gonna Charade. Dude is comedic gold if he wasn't in a position of power.

It's not an attempt at an insanity defense. He's just a moron and doesn't actually know how plea deals work.

[–] fireshaper@fedia.io 4 points 2 years ago

He thinks he gets to make the deal. We know how good his art of the deal is.

[–] gogozero@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 years ago

sure, i'll take a lighter sentence -but it'll cost you

Nixon got $18 million and he thinks he's entitled to the same. He mentioned it in an interview.

[–] Spacebar@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

His estate got 18 million in the year 2000, six years after his death, as compensation for his siezed tapes and documents while in office. His presidency and resignation prompted the Presidential Records Act to be inacted. Since his records were taken before the Act was passed, the Supreme Court decided his estate was owed money.

His estate wanted $200 million, the DOJ was suggesting $2 million. They settled at $18M.

I think Trump has prosecutor and prosecuted muddled up.

He does know its the Feds prosecuting him and not the other way round? right?

[–] tinyVoltron@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Everything Trump does is about money. No surprise he'd try to squeeze a couple bucks out of being indicted. If he is convicted, he'll try to squeeze money out of that too.

[–] Lauchs@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I mean, at least he's trying to take money from the government instead of his impoverished fanbase?

[–] risibledog@fedia.io 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] risibledog@fedia.io 1 points 2 years ago

dang I guess kbin doesn't display markdown gifs... either way, I believe we can rely on Trump to keep grifting his impoverished fanbase too

[–] communist@beehaw.org 6 points 2 years ago

This is a genuinely impressive level of boldness, only a peak narcissist could even manage to get those words out of their mouth.

Is this an attempt to set up an insanity defense?

Ahaha, love it.

In all honesty, I think that's just trump's typical salesman bluster. Help reinforce the idea he didn't do anything wrong etc.

Edit: Though now I'm thinking about it, maybe he does take a plea deal and just tells his supporters they paid him a settlement but the crooked Biden DOJ won't tell anyone about it etc...?

What a shitheal

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Idk if that’s a prediction that he won’t be convicted. If he’s talking about taking any kind of plea, even this dumb “only if they pay me” thing, it’s still an admission that he would likely be convicted
