They have stability issues that manifest themselves as bad connections, poor rendering, slow responses, and dropped connections.
Yeah, you know what's funny? The built in systems have these problems even worse, which is exactly what drives people to use the phone based alternative instead.
And when CarPlay and Android Auto have issues, drivers pick up their phones again, taking their eyes off the road and totally defeating the purpose of these phone-mirroring programs.
Okay, and somehow using the built in ones, which always get cheaper hardware and less development resources, which always perform much much worse, doesn't cause people to pick up their phones?
It's funny because all of those issues are problems with GM and not carplay. I have after market car play and have had literally 0 issues
The only okay built in systems I have used were from Lexus and Infiniti, but even then they were only okay
So they’re going to spend countless millions developing one that’s better? How exactly are they going to solve the problems they suggested? Are they going to invent a better USB cable? Reinvent Bluetooth?
They're going to develop a system that they have control over rather than Apple or Google so they have access to the user data and usage metrics.
If they actually cared about the safety impact of these types of systems they'd be putting physical buttons back into their cars, not bigger touch screens.
Agreed entirely. I just find their excuses thin
but no problem making 2 metre tall pickup trucks that are designed to kill pedestrians with ease, be unable to see children at all and blind drivers going in the opposite direction
Well, that means I will be dropping GM.
This is total bull shit. The data stays on your phone. Like another commented said, GM wants the data and they don't want to pay Apple and Google
