MODERATORS

Let's do a small Fediverse chess tournament! Everyone is welcome to join!

We will play 10-minute games (10+0) on lichess, a free and open-source chess website. You will be assigned an opponent and will have 2 days to schedule and play your match.

I will decide on the structure of the tournament (brackets, groups etc.) based on the number of sign-ups here :)

Sign up by commenting here with your lichess account name.

Signup deadline is Wednesday, 2pm UTC. Shortly after, I'll announce the first pairings :)

Looking forward to some nice matches โค๏ธ

Needless to say, I didnโ€™t have a realistic chance. However, Iโ€™ve a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next proper licking.

https://lichess.org/Rgr7yWOK: BabaDuda versus library_patron 1-0

A lot of swings, but hopefully still interesting. As black I was happy to go up in material, but although I knew I really had to keep an eye on king safety, that's exactly what I failed to do.

(Also, as someone used to not playing with time controls, rapid feels so fast. I have no idea how people do blitz or bullet.)

Yeah that kingside push is always risky, your king was way too exposed imo

Good game

Let's start the first round! As we're only 7 I think we should do a round-robin :) Feel free to use this comment to post the match + result

You'll have until friday 2pm utc to play your match

Round 1

vincenius - โˆ…

library_patron - BabaDuda

mycowan - Fabiozeh

Caboose12000 - CrazyMerlyn

Thanks for joining! @_mycowan@lemmy.world @library_patron@lemmy.blahaj.zone @Caboose12000@lemmy.world @CrazyMerlyn@lemmy.ml @Fabiozeh@lemmy.world @BabaDuda@lemmy.ml

@CrazyMerlyn@lemmy.ml absolutely wiped the floor with me, very well played (on their part at least lol)

[โ€“] Vincenius@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Looking at CrazyMeryins rating, I think this will happen to every one of us ๐Ÿ˜…

[โ€“] Fabiozeh@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Awesome! I'm Fabiozeh on lichess.

[โ€“] Caboose12000@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm extremely bad at chess but F*ck it im in
lichess name: Caboose12000

Made a Lichess account to participate: @library_patron

I am sure I will lose spectacularly, but if even I'm willing to join, nobody can use the excuse that their rating is too low to participate.

I am also not very good, but I love to play and learn from the game. Looking forward to the tourney! mycowan on Lichess.

@Vincenius@lemmy.ml Just FYI, but because of the load on lemmy.ml, a lot of the comments and mention notifications on that instance aren't getting through the backlog and federating to other instances. Compare this post to what I currently see through my home instance or what the lemmy.world folks see. In particular, @Coolbootyjames@lemmy.world seems to have been left out, and it might be a good idea to send DMs to the lemmy.world people to tell them about your comment.

Anyway, something I wanted to ask, but can't make into a reply to the Round 1 comment yet is what we're doing for colors. Are we randomizing each game, or should we read the person on the left as being White and the person on the right as being Black?

[โ€“] Vincenius@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Thanks for letting me know - I'll send an DM

Let's go for random colors :) (makes it easier for me :D)

Just peeking through the door - Checking if the chess tournament is still ongoing or everyone fell asleep.

[โ€“] fabiozeh@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm still here, but something's definitely off... I can only see this post with my Lemmy.ml account. Lemmy.world is not loading posts and comments correctly :-/

Maybe OP should try a new post?

[โ€“] eulheim@feddit.de 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It seems that there are some syncing issues with lemmy.world currently.

Link to the post : There is some desync issue with lemmy.world and feddit.de

[โ€“] eulheim@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

Did you notice a change in the syncing issue? I am hoping this platform will be an alternative to Reddit in the future. I am digging the vibes a lot.
