The Satanic Temple

I noticed there wasn't a TST Lemmy community. The Satanic Temple is a modern satanic religion that aims to promote human rights and compassion. Check out their about page on their official website at https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/about-us. Note that this community is not an official affiliation. TST is also separate and not affiliated with the Church of Satan, who have a slightly different viewpoint of what satanism truly is. Dunno what to post in here, but maybe some will search for this and take part. Hello!

A Michigan man was arrested for planning to bomb The Satanic Temple headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts, police said.

Luke Isaac Terpstra, 30, of Grant, Michigan was arrested on Jan. 2 by Grant police, according to a Jan. 12 news release from the Salem Police Department. Terpstra is charged with possession of bombs with unlawful intent.

Michigan law enforcement were tipped off about Terpstra’s plan by his mother, WZZM reported citing court documents.

The Satanic Temple has 7 tenets:

  1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

  2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

  3. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

  4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

  5. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

  6. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

  7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

Yeah, definitely monsters, unreasonable, pure evil /s

Fyi, it's "tenets", "tenants" are for landlords.

Whoops, thank you for the correct, you can tell how frequently I type out the word "tenets"! Correcting it.

Right wing extremists have been the #1 terrorist threat in the US for years according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Can I just add how much I'm enjoying the fact that apparently The Satanic Temple decided to locate their headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts? Delicious!

Lol, yes, the image of Mitch impersonating a puffer fish is what got me to look more closely. Don't know why this image but it's hilarious.

This is the most confusing thing just reading the headline and source. A man from MI, arrested in MA, reported by a website in MO.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It doesn't say AP but must have come over a wire service of some sort because there is no way that a reporter in MO did the research on this. This is surely an article that was written by one organization and republished by another.

i just thought it was funny.

I agree, it's an odd situation.
