In case anyone knows: I recently bought a ZigBee home thermostat at a thrift store for $2. I have Home Assistant running on a RPi4. Is there currently a way to get these devices talking to each other without buying more hardware?

No. Rpi4 can't speak zigbee without more hardwarz.

Further down the rabbit hole I go, I suppose. Thanks!

You need a Zigbee coordinator. A USB stick to plug in. Get the Sky connect and you'll be future proofed with thread support as well.

Okay, this is the part that confused me. Thanks, I'll check it out!
