Anarchism is a social movement that seeks liberation from oppressive systems of control including but not limited to the state, capitalism, racism, sexism, speciesism, and religion. Anarchists advocate a self-managed, classless, stateless society without borders, bosses, or rulers where everyone takes collective responsibility for the health and prosperity of themselves and the environment.

On this day in 1911, the Japanese government executed twelve anarchists, including radical journalists Kanno Sugako and Kōtoku Shūsui (shown), as part of a widespread crackdown on left-wing activism. Among those executed were Uchiyama Gudō, a Buddhist priest and socialist who spoke out against the Meiji government for its imperialism and advocated for conscripted soldiers to desert en masse.

The pretext for this crackdown was the "High Treason Incident", a plot to assassinate the Emperor of Japan. The incident began when police searched the room of Miyashita Takichi, a young lumbermill employee, and found materials which could be used to construct bombs, concluding that there was a broader conspiracy to harm the imperial family.

On the basis of this plot, the Japanese government rounded up leftist activists from all over the country. 24 of the 26 defendants actually brought to trial were sentenced to death, despite the evidence against nearly all of them being circumstantial.

Among those executed anarcha-feminist journalist Kanno Sugako (some sources say she was executed on January 25th). At the age of 29, Kanno became the first woman with the status of political prisoner to be executed in the history of modern Japan.

Prior to his execution, Kōtoku Shūsui etched this message on the wall of his cell: "How has it come about that I have committed this grave crime? Today my trial is hidden from outside observers and I have even less liberty than previously to speak about these events. Perhaps in 100 years someone will speak out about them on my behalf."

TAing at a university level and seeing the type of arguments made by pre-med and business school students actually does a great deal to explain why Megan McArdle and Tom Friedman have careers. There are a lot of well paid professionals who simply can't comprehend of an argument written at a level higher than a college sophomore's C- essay.

Getting robbed while I'm at home and having to awkwardly explain to the robbers that I'm just too lazy to shovel and regularly check my mailbox.

Somebody help me name exactly what kind of guy my new coworker is. He's identified himself as a libertarian, has mentioned several times in conversation how much he loves Dostoevsky and classical music and Marcus Aurelius and such like, and has even read the Gulag Archipelago (the first time I've encountered a real person who's read it, I might add.) Very big into chess and the gym and science and so forth. I don't wanna savage him, he's a nice enough guy, but I find him vaguely insufferable and I can't tell why. Other than him being a STEMlord and a bit of a tryhard anyway.

I fucking hate this city and its “public transit” that’s just a glorified school bus for the university

After 6pm there’s one bus approximately every 35 minutes to take me home. At best during the day it’s once every 20 minutes. I’m sorry, if the time between busses is more than 10 minutes at peak hours you fucked up big time. Every 10 minutes is the minimum acceptable time if you want transit to actually function. Every 30 minutes is fine at like, 3am. But it’s absolutely unacceptable at 6:30pm. Thats absurd.

I remember once I was hanging out with my friend, the one I miss a lot, and they casually picked my phone up to use the Clock app (for some minigame in Majora’s Mask or something), like without asking. I thought it was cute. Like just for a moment we were as close as I wish we were.

There were a lot of moments like that. Like the times they fell asleep sitting next to me (junkies sleep sitting up a lot for some reason). And then I would convince myself they hated me.

Just finished this webcomic where a guy kidnapped and forced into a cult as a minor climbs the ranks of the cult to hopefully change it from the inside, but ends up brainwashing himself in the process. Still kinda processing it, but the art style is fucking incredible and super powerful.

Like he eventually escapes the cult, but his brain is fundamentally re-wired and his worldview is changed completely.

What’s wild is that fucking US senators had direct ties to this cult and gave them Godamn funding and unequivocal praise. Really makes you lose all faith in humanity, but of course, there is a clear class issue briefly mentioned but not directly addressed (if that makes sense)

here it is if it sounds intriguing

drop my sister to the airport she will be visiting the kkkrackkkerland eu-cool

Now im watching the qualifier to my favorite Age of empires 2 tournament the Hidden Cup, on which the identity of every player is hidden and you have to guess who is who only from watching them play, its really fun, and since the players get a bonus if they get guessed the least it lets to a bunch of creative and fun plays to try not to get guessed.

The most frustrating type of leftists I know in my area are DemSocs that refuse to look at anything further left than that. It's frustrating because they like every AES country except Cuba. The idea is that all the others, including North Korea, have seen the light and are now adopting the superior Democratic Socialist model. Cuba though still clings to Communism because they are stuck in the past. They like Socialism and nationalizing industries but mention Communism or Anarchism and they get furious very quickly.

I've had to work within the DemSoc party because the Communist Party is pretty dead and just saying you're a member makes people not listen to you. I'm thankful that we're not like the US where neoliberalism is the furthest "left" you can get at the state or national level, but this alternative is very frustrating too.

What's cool about guitar is if you're sad, you can still practice in bed. Still working on my calluses. Basically, I'm just ending each day with some slides to irritate my skin more.

Overgrowth is on sale on Steam for 8 thalers. It's an old indie game about a rabbit doing surprisingly brutal kung fu on his quest for revenge. Really cool martial arts system, really intense parkour, the world is basically sengokujidai but for furries. Strong reccomend, though caution; It's an old game with lots of indy jank. Apparently has tons of mods now.
