Opinions on Biden change based on the decade. Younger Biden was seen as a younger firebrand and was somewhat popular, even being a bit of a Desantis during his first Democratic primary before his habitual lying caught up to him.

Older Biden during the Obama era was exactly as you said. I did know people who called him a pedo back then but they were all republicans. Most normal people did see him as a bumbling funny grandpa and wanted him or Michelle Obama to run with hopes that it would return the country to the Obama-era when they felt good.
