I still think there is value in sharing failures. On the plus side it tastes fine.

These are the ultimate dinner rolls, I now have to make 4 batches for every thanksgiving: https://youtu.be/5l10haF-sxQ

What recipe are you using?

  • 360 grams flour
  • 1 instant rise packet yeast
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 egg

Mix and let rise from one hour. Shape into rolls with flour. Let rise for 30 minutes. Egg wash and seeds. Bake at 375F for 18 minutes.

I found it online. I clearly need practice and playing with it.

How long are you kneading? By hand or machine?

I think you have found the problem and you have my thanks

Wasn't a failure as long as they taste good. Just looks like it might have needed some more kneading?

I can definitely recommend giving the dough a few minutes (5-10) of work before adding any fat, then kneading it in gradually. Makes for very soft and fluffy rolls, if you're into that.
