Star Trek

It's overly grim, the science is dumb, and they should have let Michelle Yeoh captain for more than a couple episodes. It's too influenced by JJ Abrams. I dropped it part way through season 2.

I feel like discovery has been attempting to find itself since the first season. Every season after the first does some work to undo the choices made in the first season. 2nd season walks back the choices made regarding Klingons for example. 3rd season tries to justify why this ship and it's crew are never mentioned ever again in Trek history.

Because of this it doesn't feel very fun. It's yet to get it's sea legs. I'm also not a fan of the Marvalization of the plotting of the show. It's existential threat after existential threat. I'll give it credit for reigniting production of trek content. We wouldn't have Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds without it.

I watched the first season and swore it off after the ending. It felt like none of the characters had real motivations, they just acted in whatever way would result in the biggest twists for the viewer. There was also a ridiculous part where a character is given a padd that says there are bombs all over Qo'noS. It's just assumed that everyone will believe this and she can take over.

All I heard about later seasons was that there was a "time-traveling Ironman suit". Which did not make it seem like the show had improved.

I found season 1 too boring and dumb. I haven't watched since.

I've been enjoying it, though I can't say it's my favorite Trek iteration. I'm here for the bevy of queer representation, and so is my partner. Some of the conceits are a little weird. In particular I really thought The Burn had a potential to be more interesting. Clearly Su'kal has some of the same mental influence over subspace that Wesley and The Traveler are shown to but his unbridled, unfocused grief caused a catastrophe of galactic, and possibly universal, proportions but we don't get that angle. Species 10C's arc also gets rushed and it's very unclear how we're going to get to the state where Discovery is floating in that nebula in Short Treks. I think 5 seasons is a good run and I am always looking forward to new Star Trek. I'll definitely be watching the final season as it comes out.

I struggled through 2 seasons thinking the 2nd season would address the problems of the first one. It didn't so I gave up soon after that.

It got better as time went on, it was sort of achingly right on liberalism with implausible plots at first, but then got more into a bit more of a sci fi mode in series 3 and 4. I'll be watching Season 5 I imagine.

I really like it from the point where they jump to the future since ST had enough prequels and stuff
