In fairness its past midnight and Im guessing at the end of Lilydale line so pretty far out from Melbourne. I believe it is only even running this late because its 24hrs on weekends.

You are correct on all counts. It's a 60 minute frequency on just about every train line between midnight and I believe 5 or 6 am [on friday and Saturday nights - other nights they don't run]. It'd still suck to miss your train though
Is the Night Bus still a thing? I'm guessing not, if the trains are running all night. The Night Bus was an adventure all by itself.
