Pierce Brosnan is your favorite Bond actor?

[–] JimmyChanga@lemmy.world 58 points 2 years ago

That's the actual shocking part

[–] Alk@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Mine too actually!... I guess not anymore. Might have something to do with playing hundreds of hours of 007 nightfire as a kid.

[–] M500@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Ew night fire? Not golden eye?

[–] FrostyTrichs@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 years ago

Not everyone is a kid during the same era, now go drink your Ovaltine!

(Golden eye was better for sure)

[–] Alk@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Nope, my progression was NES > PS2 because I was poor. I missed out on a lot, though I got to play my friend's N64 a few times.

[–] DogWater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

For me it was the world is not enough

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He’s the one whose movies were in theaters in the 90’s and early 00’s. (Personally, I’d go with Dalton.)

That is so much of what drives people's opinions I think. My favourite bands are still the ones that I found when I was in highschool and college. Some of them were current and otherwise.

If I had to pick a favourite bond actor it would be Brosnan because he was bond when I was kid.

I have to remind myself of this when something gets remade. It doesn't mean the first one was good, that was just what my nostalgia reminds me of.

Not saying nuance doesn't exist, but for things that people don't really think about, nostalgia is powerful.

connery is more charming, moore is more earnest and craig got to star after they stopped writing scripts where the female leads had names like Hellacious Vag

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Fun fact! They only changed that because of Austin Powers. In fact Austin Powers almost killed the James Bond movie franchise entirely because the satire was so on point.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

Invisible cars, bad CGI and nonsensical plots were killing 007. AP just highlighted that.

[–] casmael@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Lmao yeah it was another time another time

Fair that was apparently fleming’s choice. I’ve always been partial to a spot of Tim dalton tbh. I always felt roger Moore was the saint first and bond second somehow but yeah good choice good choice

[–] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I did like Timothy Dalton, but I feel like he wasn't in enough films to really get to know him in the role lol

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

David Niven only voiced by Rich Little.

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago

Thank you. I was about to ask for those of us who don’t follow actors, who that was

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It was a drive-by fruiting!

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Will always remember when I was playing multiplayer GoldenEye in college and one of the guys said this as he was killing Bond (complete with accent)! RIP Robin.

[–] casmael@lemm.ee 23 points 2 years ago

Wait what brosnan endorsed that guy? Man he always seemed like a reasonable sort of chap. ☹️

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 19 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Hey wait a second... That's not Garbage! Garbage just did the theme song for one of Brosnan's Bond movies.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

The World is not Enough

The song and the music video are pretty banger. And Shirley Manson is a legend / queen.

[–] PhobosAnomaly@feddit.uk 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (3 children)

If you like Garbage's stuff and you love Shirley Manson, then oh boy check out Stephanie Cheape and Queen.

It was as if it was made as a love letter to Garbage

[–] casmael@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Hmm not a bad shout

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 1 points 2 years ago

Good share! Thanks. And, yes, absolutely.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

It was actually my favorite one up until Writing on the Wall came and snatched the title.

[–] masquenox@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

Yeah... I stopped having a favorite "actor-who-played-a-personification-of-rapacious-British-imperialsm" when I realized that they were acting as a personification of rapacious British imperialism.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 2 years ago

"The Garbage Man Can!!!"

I can't believe I can still remember that song, but it's what immediately popped into my head upon seeing this image.
