I just spent $200 on eBay for a OnePlus 6T (which is the newest phone supported by postmarketOS). First impressions: it is buggy as all hell and running what is essentially a desktop Linux OS on a 5 inch touchscreen does not work as well as I had hoped it would, but it is open source and it does kind of work, and I'm hoping with a lot more experimentation I can get it to kind of work slightly better

amen.

(although reasonably i think you might have too much faith in us. a society wide desire to be a colorful dog has the power to accomplish a great many things but peace on earth is a tall order)

Teenagers generally lack the life experience required to temper their worldviews, so applying political labels to them seems a bit silly to me.

my brother in christ you are on Lemmy. more than half the comments are just teenagers applying political labels to themselves and each other. why are you still here?

Then they would scramble to spend all of their money to get off of the list

they would not. they would hire boatloads of bodyguards to try to protect themselves, and when that failed to save them, they'd just assume the last guy wasn't doing it hard enough.

if by some miracle they did start spending their money, they'd spend it by funneling it into charities they control.

how comically would you have to miss the point to think rick sanchez is supposed to be a role model

probably less comically than the 2019 joker, which is in turn less than walter white, which -- hold on, what is the clockwork orange guy doing here? do people seriously--

even that aside i'm a little surprised "just like walter white!" didn't tip you off

Oh, I totally agree. Being afraid to call out to the allocator because "hey, I might need that memory later" is kinda not great. To a certain extent I can see how if an application tends to thrash memory, making a kajillion syscalls might hurt performance, enough that on many machines the gains from doing a single big allocation on the system and then slicing it up into small allocations in-process might outweigh the downsides, but still...

He has Tesla’s “Full Self Driving” system, which works

well there you've already told your first lie

All the while progressive and left leaning people either don’t vote, strategically vote for a center right party, or vote for some unknown, unimportant, backwater party that has no chance of doing anything in parliament.

those are in fact the three possible options
