“I’ve seen a fair bit of death and destruction, but Rowley Shoals was always the place that was still standing,” says Dr James Gilmour, a research scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science.

“Just the sheer abundance of life is incredible. It was our hope spot. It’s the reef I love more than any other. So this was super emotional.”

On the back of a massive ocean heatwave

Thanks ALP and LNP voters for giving up and enabling the destruction to continue for a brief moment of GHG emissions flatulence

The only really big cuts so far have happened in the land sector — by felling fewer trees, and planting more. (In the jargon of carbon reporting, that's called Land Use, or more formally Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF)).

All other emissions combined are now nearly identical to what they were in 2005.

The same way Apple, Microsoft and Adobe etal did, steal ideas from others and refine it, as Bill Gates himself noted.

Ruthless espolitation of the working class and then portected from said working class by armed guards (ploice) and their apparatchik (judical system) , paid for mostly by the working classes.

Eastern Eurooe hasn't and they're currently acting as a buffer from it spreading further west, which it seems likely western and central Eurooe are happy to allow if you pay attention to how they vote.

Of course then their are the exports, France doing a bang up job of using organsied violence in places like New Caledonia etal.

V2G and V2H is here, so you'll be able to store there and draw down overnight in a suitable ecar.

A large pumped hydro in Qld has been cancelled by the new Lib government, so won't be able to store it there. Snowy Hydro pumped storage is way behind schedule and locally Redflow went backrupt, so huge Zinc Flow storage batteries arent available to rollout to store excess energy and Lithuim is a shitty choice for large grid batteries.

The Arctic is likely to become “ice-free” by midcentury—and could pass that grim milestone much sooner unless much more is done to combat climate change

Well, good luck with that.

Living down here you realise Tasmania is an ecological disaster area, truly horrifying

There are no solutions that involve personal car ownership. Appealing to entitlment just makes it worse, will it be inconvenient? Yes, but the only other option is the collapse of civilisation.

Here's the IPCC https://mass.streetsblog.org/2022/04/22/international-climate-report-demands-systemic-changes-to-transportation-and-urban-planning/

but also makes clear that simply replacing gasoline with batteries won't be enough: cities must also dramatically curtail the use of automobiles and avoid "locking in" future emissions with more car-dependent infrastructure.

Here in rural Australia a friend has a farm and has a sideline raising and training working dogs. He regularly shoots the ones who he says have the wrong temperament. It happens often, as in monthly or so. If one of his own working dog is too old and can't keep up (he has 3 or 4 at any one time) , or it is injured, same thing. I suspended it's fairly ubiquitous in rural areas.
