You're just like almost there, that graph isn't about lengths of days. It's an arbitrary representation of what someone would consider a "normal" time for the sun to set and rise. The gradient in colors is because of the shape of the earth, the blocky lines are probably the cut off counties/states that follow different timezones (would need to verify source for that though). I've gotta split but hopefully someone can explain it better in the mean time if you have more questions.

.... do you believe the person made the image for this comment? What evidence is shown in the image for you to believe that the tilt and shape of the earth wasn't taken into consideration for the graphic, besides it being shown as a 2d image?

You do realize how just morally corrupt and insane that logic is right? We spend trillions as a country, you're upset that immigrants might get something when our veterans program is still lacking. You are fighting over crumbs and upset at other crumb eaters instead of the elite being the ones only giving out crumbs. There are valid arguments and suggested tactics to help BOOST the economy with programs that can help veterans, immigrants, and includes social safety nets for all people. The distraction that "They're Stealing Your Crumbs!^tm^" helps stop any progress and keeps the boogeyman so voters can be scared into submission.

We need immigrants to help a flailing economy thanks to the baby boomer population (immigrants help us economically!, it's a statistical fact!). Immigrants also have lower crime rates than typical groups of people born here. Housing the homeless is cheaper than arresting them, ER visits (because no preemptive healthcare) are most expensive, ETC ETC. All the fear mongering is just lies, don't believe the hatred and look into it yourself so you're not spreading misinformation.

I just love how the political discourse went from "should we have healthcare for all? (circa 2016)", to "they took our jobs! (circa southpark 2004)".

I've been seeing gross stuff all around about voting records. For context that matters, I live in NC. It's fucking non-stop from all sides. I'm trying to find the ad I saw with a relative while over at his place that played on Tubi that he was watching. I just heard it in the background while I was cooking and was flabbergasted. This ad was very clearly anti-Trump but then commented on your vote is registered and can be seen (completely false) with a threatening overtone. It went by so fast, both of us asked wtf just came on and I assured him his vote is private but they can check "IF" you voted (he's an independent and primed to believe the worse of all scenarios thanks to social media and news, but is mindful when he thinks for himself).

I doubt it was anything like the actual DNC making the ad, was more than likely a superpac. Trying to find an obscure ad that plays on streaming in a localized area isn't as easy as it used to be. Doesn't help that youtube and ddg just gives me a bunch of useless shit that aren't even ads or commercials (who'da thunk it would be hard to SEARCH for a commercial to watch). Regardless, every single ad used in this context needs fined into oblivion and the people involved need jail time so others don't continue it on for every election to come.

Also, the downvotes for you are undeserved. There's some fucking sycophant political worshipers that either got shipped into here or have drank the kool-aid this election cycle. They literally cannot hear anything negative without becoming triggered. It's really setting up the next administration to not have to do anything but wait another 3 years and proclaim democracy is in trouble again.

it's a shitty design? From a company worth over 3 trillion, that gives them extra shitty points.

Hey, just one human to another. That "Voting isn't a love letter, it's a chess move" just does absolufuckinglutely nothing and comes across as insulting/pompous on your part. You're insulting someone's vote as a "love letter" (great way to get someone to read and contemplate when you're taking the meaning of the vote out of context). And your "chess move" isn't as intelligent as you think, you're in check and you only have one move.

Just one more fucking week to go and I can't wait. It's gonna be so great to see next week how Lemmy is just flooded with 3rd party initiatives, voting changes organization, donations to local and national 3rd party candidates, a heavy focus on anti-gerrymandering and securing voting rights. We're not gonna continue to discuss how there's no options and we can't support other candidacies for at least 3 years....right? Everyone saying now is not the right time is gonna be super active next week with pushing to support the future parties.... right?!

*If you have paid for newer gen and all of your iOS and Mac devices are compatible...

FTFY, it's a heavy caveat that makes 80% of their equipment dead unless you give it a second life with a different operating system. I've got perfectly decent devices that are bricks in their current original OS unless I get real technical with it. One I can double the ram capacity in it because for some reason apple throttled it's size but the hardware is designed for more if you just tweak it.

I wish apple was better about it and the device file transfers was just a staple thing that had since conception. Air transfer is a pain in the ass from past experience and works when it wants to, cloud syncing also works when it wants to even when telling it to update it now. I have a partner who uses apple almost exclusively, it's so close to being something decent but I can never tell what's actually going on with a device and there always seems to be some kind of weird hiccup in any process (like 25% of the time, still noticeable from being seamless though).

(I have frustration from this, I apologize for my rant)

This is the poor man's tech work-around and can indeed confirm it works lol. You are limited by your services upload size though so beware, you might find yourself having to do multiples and then it's just starting to get inconvenient.

I've been seeing more often (and others have posted the same) that some of the elements of "Reddit etiquette" seem to be taking over here. Luckily I can still find discussion comments but it seems the jokes and general "downvote because I disagree" are slowly taking over.

So the question becomes is it the size or the functionality of the site? The people or popularity? What's your thoughts?

edit: should I change it to Lemmy-hivemind? Exhibit A: the amount of downvotes without a single explanation (guessing it's anything to do with Reddit being talked about).

I just wanted to use my voice to let everyone know about this since it seems to be something they want to Streisand effect. I made a discussion on the stormgate steam page about how their EULA has a bad link to their privacy policy and asked why the information listed in the policy is being collected. It had to go through the review process since it contained links and then after being posted was deleted from my history after an hour (I guess when someone actually laid eyes on it)

For the full details I already made a post in the privacy community asking if this was a common occurrence. I'm attempting to reach out through other avenues for some type of explanation but just getting crickets or brick walls. Please use caution and common sense when downloading and consenting to agreements from game companies.

The highlights if you don't feel like clicking the link:

In particular, we have collected the following categories of personal information from consumers within the last twelve (12) months:

A real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, online identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, Social Security number, driver's license number, passport number, or other similar identifiers.

A name, signature, Social Security number, physical characteristics or description, address, telephone number, passport number, driver's license or state identification card number, insurance policy number, education, employment, employment history, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, or any other financial information, medical information, or health insurance information.

Records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.

Browsing history, search history, information on a consumer's interaction with a website, application, or advertisement.

Rather peeved about all of this. Been waiting for this game for ages and was excited about the F2P aspect then found out a lot of elements of the game are locked behind paywalls making the full game costing way over most AAA games. Ok, lets roll on anyways and see what the game has to offer. Then I get to the privacy policy and realize they're using anti-cheat services to monitor your game, I continued reading the user agreement and then had to find their actual privacy policy page because they have it listed under a different url then what they have posted. Some Highlights from the user agreement:

You may not host, provide or develop matchmaking services for the Product, or intercept, emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Frost Giant in any way, for any purpose, including without limitation unauthorized play over the internet, network play (except as expressly authorized by Frost Giant), or as part of content aggregation networks.

You may not organize, promote or participate in an esports competition for the Product which has not been licensed by Frost Giant.

You may not play on another user's Account

In order to safeguard its licensing rights, when you are using the Product, Frost Giant may monitor your hardware random access memory (RAM)

You understand that the mere presence of unauthorized cheat software on your device, whether or not you use that unauthorized software while playing the Game, may result in Frost Giant exercising its full rights under this Agreement.

  • You have the resources necessary to easily reinstall the operating system for the computer system that you will use to take part in the Alpha or Beta Test as well as to restore any and all data that may be lost;

It just goes on and on with some really sketchy stuff, then I get to the privacy policy:

Your contact information/identifiers, such as your name, your gamer id, mailing address, email address, employer, primary language, country, social media credentials. preferred games and date of birth. If you contact us by telephone, we will also retain your telephone number.

I've stopped playing previous games that use these tactics and programs because there's just too many other games that don't require these that are available. This was a game I was hoping to get back into with some RTS friends I've made along the way, Is this just the way of the world or something to avoid?

Sorry for the vague question but I'm hoping there's a lot I"m missing. I know I can edit the side bar, icon, and banner. Make the community public or private and there's a "mod posting only" option. But is that it?

Some things I'm wondering about,

  • can I turn downvotes off or is that an instance only thing? (fan community, off topic would just be removed)
  • Is there any other way to manipulate the community page like backgrounds etc?
  • Flair's or post tags? Any community settings I looked over?
  • Allowing or disallowing bots (again is this an instance thing?)

I'm fine with what it is, just wanted to make sure there wasn't more I was missing with my options in the community.

Bonus question, besides crossposting and the "new communities" community sections, is there anything else I should do with a fresh community?

Ran into this recently and was really impressed. The Stargate Project (website) is by Kristian Tysse (youtube).

Dumbed down the deep-cut-ness because of all the down voters, now basically anyone can get it so you don't actually have to think or know anything about SGA. I blame the initial downvoters and the hive mind after effect.

spoilerStargate Atlantis - Season 4 Episode 12 "Spoils of War"

or

the exact scene from the episode since none of the downvoters could be bothered to actually watch the show.

Rather disappointed in the mod as well, was removed without even clicking on the spoiler for context and/or asking a simple question about the meme. Lazy work.

Anyone complaining? Let's see your OC stargate meme!
