This is a good one
Unless the people around you were also doing the same then I think you would still be exposed to polluted views and knowledge.
Do you find that Writefreely federates well? I've tried hosting it a couple of times but my accounts weren't discoverable on many other Fediverse instances. I never got to the bottom of why. I really like it though and would love for it to work out.
I agree with all your points! What I will add though is that what we think of as 'investors money' is actually value that has been extracted from the environment and from workers.
I'm not saying anyone should do this but if they did it might be very worth their while.
Make sure you get open-pollinated varieties, so that you can save your own seed. I have vegetables growing in my garden that are now 7/8 generations away from the original seed I bought. Saving your own seed means that the plants can adapt to your local conditions too and because you let them flower they also benefit other creatures in your garden.
Seed-saving is massively Solarpunk.
It's very tempting to have schadenfreude about this failure but also disgusting that so much has been invested in it that should have been put to better use.
It's just another example of a system whose narrow definition of success is taking human and environmental value and using it to extract more. It's not aimed at solving worthwhile problems or making things better, which is why people are becoming more miserable and the planet is getting wrecked.
You could say that it's the system we live in which is the AI, feeding on itself and becoming more sick.
If the government is not selling us out then what do they have to hide?
It's no wonder we don't trust politicians when it's clear they don't trust us.
I keep hearing about how high the scrap price for copper is at the moment.
I remember how horrified my mum was around 2005 when we started using social media because she thought that what we posted on it would get turned against us.
20 years later and she's not looking like such a paranoid old fruitcake.
If you subscribe to hashtags for your interests from a Pixelfed account I'm sure you will find artists and art that you like. There are some wonderful artists on the Fediverse and it's how I find most of the artists and art that I like these days.
Some that I particularly like right now:
@rmiddleton.art@pixelfed.art - abstract expressionism
@humanum@mastodon.art - digital watercolour 'bio-fantasy'
@atomicker@mstdn.ca - 1900s Japanese Shin-hanga prints from various artists
I sometimes see artists offering prints but I'm sure most artists would be approachable about making them for you if you'd like to buy one.
