1. Waxed Canvas is water repellent and therefore repels other things like mud etc. You should just be able to wipe everything off with a damp cloth. Oil stains will need some absorbing substance left on stain for a day or two. Avoid using any chemicals or washing machine.
2. The wax does dry out over time and will need to be "reapplied" at some point.
