Yeah, I guess when it comes down to it, if you want 100% control you have to pay for it yourself.

I personally use DigitalOcean and find it to be quite user friendly.

They use what they call "Droplets" to create a VPS. You can have multiple at once and it only charges you for the time you use it, and you can delete add more at any time. They'll just bill you at the end of the month for the usage.

What's nice is that it also has a marketplace, so if you want to spin up a Docker Ubuntu server, or a vanilla Debian server, you can do that with one click.

Ooh, I like this answer. If they pull it, you still have it. Can always post again.

It's a ghost. Always sleep with a vacuum.

I agree. I understand it's a lot of data to pull, but even a status bar that can be checked on it's own page would be a help for people to understand why their comments/posts aren't showing up/why the stats are unbalanced.

From what I can tell, and don't quote me on this, this doesn't really matter.

Most of my subs I have on my own instance say subscribe pending but I still get the posts federated. Not sure what the reason is, would love if somebody could chime in.

The auto scrolling bug was fixed in the latest version of Lemmy. If you're instance isn't on 0.18.0, talk to your admin about upgrading.

INFO: Was it charging the whole time?

New and top day are my picks as well for sure. New is for when I'm feeling social and want to dive right into fresh conversations, while Top Day is great for checking out what went on and allows me to pick up converstaions that have already formed.

I definitely recommend not sticking to one, but pick 2 or 3 to switch between, depending on your mood. This way the new posts get bigger and the big posts stay active. We're all in this together, let's keep lemmy living!

I'm really happy to see so many people posting this article. While I was a little annoyed at first, I realized that it's better overall to see this popping up everywhere.

If you haven't read this yet, It's great for understanding the upcoming challenges the Fediverse will face.
