I can't even begin to recount all the fucked up shit I went through a few years ago just trying to advocate for the right of Black people to not be murdered by police. DURING the Biden administration, to be clear.

Speaking of history, I can’t say I’d relish hollering alongside people who’ve only studied it on TikTok.

Never seen a more perfect example of the kind of smug self-superior liberal in my life

I had a roommate who barged into my room in the middle of the night because he was sure that one of my other roommates was blasting rap music whos lyrics were all about him, and that there were a bunch of other people in her room with her laughing along with it. I went upstairs and there was silence. I had to calmly tell him he was hearing things, and that nothing of the sort was happening. I knew he had recently decided to quit drinking because he'd slept through an alarm and his job threatened him. Thankfully, I had another roommate awakened by the hub bub and the two of us talked him down and the next morning he checked into a hospital. He was there for five days, over Thanksgiving. He told me he didn't even realize what day it was and was just pleasantly surprised they gave him turkey. It's scary but hopefully you can find a way to get them resources to get over the initial withdrawals and stay clean.

Just remember Amy Winehouse didn't die from an OD, she died from alcohol withdrawal

I also often stir-fry onions, garlic, potatoes, tofu or cauliflower and garbanzos while waiting for the rice. But once again, that might be a bit more ambitious than you're asking for

One pot lentils and rice is a good go-to. Cup of rice, 2/3rds cup of red lentils. Rinse a few times if you want. Fill with water to one knuckle above the top of the rice/lentils. Cook til water is gone or mixture is soft enough to eat (prolly twenty mins). Then add a jarred sauce like korma or one of the canned curry mixes you just mix with coconut milk. If you're feeling a little more ambitious look up a recipe for kitchedi. As a vegan it was practically my Kraft mac n cheese

A surprisingly literal example of NIMBYs creating their own downfall

They train by eating shitloads of salad, which expands in your stomach. Over time this basically increases your stomach capacity

People seem to constantly forget that the working class is mostly women of color. "I drive buses" or "I serve food" would have been better

I don't think documentation is really necessary when pretty much all media in the US portrays white, young, thin, slightly athletically toned, clear-skinned, white-toothed, symmetrical-faced people with societally-approved matching gender characteristics as "attractive". Characters who exhibit those traits are portrayed/coded as attractive, and they are the people put in front of the camera on things like the news. Just saying "attractive" when talking about someone with those features is basically saying that anyone who does not have those features is inherently not attractive, when in reality many people have different opinions on what they find attractive.
