The problem with renationalising it is that we'd inherit the billions of debt.

"state school" in UK terminology. Public school in the UK means private school. Weird I know.

The image for this article, and the same family in slightly different poses, can be found across multiple websites.

The image held within the archived Telegraph article seems to be a generic library image yet there appears to be no reference of this. The footnote of the image implies this is the "hard up" family.

Lashings if they're lucky. The norm is either being fed alive to a pack of starved dogs or being strapped to an artillery gun. They sometimes get innovative with anti-aircraft guns as well.

Avoid this website. It's full of scam popups.

Er ... it's too frigging cold and when it's warm it stinks due to the streets and paths not being cleared of the pavement pizzas of the previous evening.

Witless Witkoff

When Emmanuel Macron beat Marine Le Pen handsomely to reclaim the French presidency in 2022, the liberal establishment was in ecstasy. Their verdict that the centre was holding was as understandable as it was unfounded. In reality, Macron’s second term helped the ultra-Right become France’s strongest political force. Last week, Mark Carney and Anthony Albanese defeated their Trumpish opponents to retain the prime ministerships of Canada and Australia, respectively. Once again, news of the revival of the political centre may prove a centrist delusion.

In other words he's seeking a 3rd term, constitution pending or not.

The sight of the Trump cabinet pandering to the Orange Turd is utterly embarrassing, but when it's your own PM doing this it's on a different level.

Witless Witkoff. What an embarrassment this picture is to the USA.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz says the military will expand its operation in Gaza and seize "large areas" of the territory.

Germany's military, the Bundeswehr, recently got the all-clear for a massive increase in investment after parliament voted to exempt defence spending from strict rules on debt.

The country's top general has told the BBC the cash boost is urgently needed because he believes Russian aggression won't stop at Ukraine.

"We are threatened by Russia. We are threatened by Putin. We have to do whatever is needed to deter that," Gen Carsten Breuer says. He warns that Nato should be braced for a possible attack in as little as four years.

"It's not about how much time I need, it's much more about how much time Putin gives us to be prepared," the defence chief says bluntly. "And the sooner we are prepared the better."

Sir Keir Starmer's plan for an international force to support a ceasefire in Ukraine has been dismissed as "a posture and a pose" by Donald Trump's special envoy.

Steve Witkoff said the idea was based on a "simplistic" notion of the UK prime minister and other European leaders thinking "we have all got to be like Winston Churchill".

**In an interview with pro-Trump journalist Tucker Carlson, Witkoff praised Vladimir Putin, saying he "liked" the Russian president.

"I don't regard Putin as a bad guy," he said. "He's super smart."**

US President Donald Trump has signed an order to strip back the federally-funded news organisation Voice of America, accusing it of being "anti-Trump" and "radical".

A White House statement said the order would "ensure taxpayers are no longer on the hook for radical propaganda", and included quotes from politicians and right-wing media railing against the "leftist", "partisan" VOA.
