Gold. It's a real asset that does really well when the dollar does poorly. In addition, it's a safe haven for geopolitical risk, which is growing.

The new U.S. ambassador to Canada says he knows the implication of King Charles III's upcoming trip to Ottawa is to push back on U.S. President Donald Trump's 51st state threats — and he says there are "easier ways to send messages" to the American government.

Perhaps, but bringing the king is preferable to the other tactics they've used in the past.

I've got a great business idea: I'll collect a few million dollars worth of nickels and sell them back to the government for 10 cents each. That's about a 28% discount to the manufacturing cost, and I'll double my money. Win-win!

That may be the case, but Powell's term as chair ends in May of 2026, and I guarantee Trump will only appoint a lackey that will do whatever Trump wants. The end of the dollar is coming faster than you think.

if it isn't stopped or at the very least regulated soon it definitely will be all over the U.S.

This administration will not stop it. They want it. Also expect deployment of WAMI, which basically can track and monitor you everywhere you go. This has also been deployed in some U.S. cities.

Thank you for posting this, as I am fairly new to Lemmy and this article hits an issue I have a question about:

Post a video on PeerTube? It can show up on Mastodon. That’s like uploading a YouTube video and your Twitter followers seeing it automatically without you having to repost and clunkily embed it.

So they've said that a post on one federated app "can" show up on show up on another. Does that mean that it always does? Is there anything you have to do have your content appear on other platforms? If I make a text post here on lemmy, how can it appear on something like peertube or pixelfed? That doesn't make sense to me. Can someone please enlighten me?

They're reformulate it and call it something new. They'll still sell amlodipine for blood pressure.

This is really interesting. As I was reading the article I was wondering how they were going to wring money out of it, as amlodipine is off patent. Then I got to this part:

“While amlodipine shows promise in preclinical models, it is not currently suitable for use in ADHD in its marketed form,” Karlsson noted. “Further optimization through chemical modification is necessary to enhance CNS selectivity and ensure a favorable therapeutic index in the context of ADHD.”

Classic big pharma. Slightly tweak an existing drug in an insignificant way so that you can get a new patent on it and charge exorbitant prices.

Surprisingly, she's turned out to be principled and cares about the rule of law. I can see why Trump regrets appointing her.

This is only going to grow, and I suspect that it's being used in many other major cities. The U.S. is rapidly metastasizing into a dystopian fascist surveillance state. We're watching the collapse of the U.S. in real time, and it's disturbing.

I'm sorry, I didn't word that very well. Someone made a joke something like "what were they going to do when they catch her, handcuff the baby?"

I'm with you. I've been a redditor for more than a decade, and I've really been disappointed with it's decline. It's gotten much worse lately. Not only is reddit clamping down on speech, more people there are just assholes now. Yesterday I made a comment on a thread about cops chasing a graduate that had brought a baby on stage. In response to a comment about the cops handcuffing the baby, I suggested that they would probably punch the baby in the face while yelling "stop resisting!" Obviously a joke and clearly not advocating violence, but my comment was deleted and my entire reddit account was suspended for 3 days. Jokes on them, as I'm not interested in going back.

Edit:

I didn't word this well. Someone made a joke something like "what were they going to do when they catch her, handcuff the baby?" No babies were actually harmed.
