I understand you dude. In my mind it's 15air or 16pro and 13-14 whatever.
For my usage even 16pro isn't enough for demanding tasks and i knew it. But as a laptop to work, test, enjoy almost best laptop in the market yet. YES!!! Finally i found it!
I switched from 17in laptop so what is less than mba 15in is almost useless for me.
This is a new feature called reveal desktop. You can turn it off: Settings>Desktop&Dock>clear wallpaper to reveal desktop>stage manager

I got you. If you know how to take mlst out of your PC, you should go for pro. Or you know that Air will be enough then go for Air. For your case forget about cpu... it will be cool unless you do 3D simulations or gaming. In this case i suggest even Max! Go and try both beasts at store, you will enjoy it.
I suggest 15in Air.

Beauty and the Beast
Currently MATLAB crashes on Macbooks running Sonoma right after openning. The problem is with xcode 15. Both of these macbooks will be great. But on heavy task (yeah with Matlab :)) consider 60-70degC on cpu and gpu. Fans still remains off thanks to Apple. You wont feel heat on your palm rest or keyboard and it will remain fast, cool and noiseless.
I would suggest air 15 inch with 16gb ram or a base model pro Matlab+simulink with take about 7gb on disk.
This Event main focus is on gaming and maybe they ibtroduce a remake of some horror game with raytracing for mac.
My spidersence tells me MBP 13 will be discontinued for a while.
