End result is probably going to turn coastal cities on the west coast into "autonomous republics" that are politically detached to the rest of the country.

IMO balkanization is inevitable but a clean cut "national divorce" is wishful thinking, it's going to get messy but I could be wrong.
Closest thing would be movim (mov.im), but note that Discord itself is several things wrapped into a frontend.
It would be faster, but note that eMMC is the worst kind of solid state drive out there and you should replace it as soon as possible, or at least don't store anything critical on it.
I'm not wholly opposed to your idea but it does solve the second issue but indirectly.
- Some farmers get arrested/put out of business
- Other farmers can't hire/abuse immigrant labor (maybe set up a reward for every successful report)
- Farmers go out of business
- New farmers who use sustainable practices and give a damn about work conditions take root instead
Agreed, if someone was really concerned about "protecting jobs" they'd arrest the farmers that hire and abuse migrants.
Bit controversial but honestly deserved, most of those farms are growing water intensive crops AND only hire migrants so they can blackmail them for terrible wages.
Too little, too late.
Good point.
Just mentioned SystemD in another post of mine.
In the case of GNOME they take their whole toolkit with them. Obviously you can switch DEs but it's still sad and annoying to see. From 5 years ago but still holds up: https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/horrible-gtk3-gnome-ui-design-is-leaking-into-ubuntu-mate-applications-in-20-04/22028/58.
Few reasons why it became unpopular on a political level
If you want to save the planet you will have to start at the local level and practice regenerative agriculture.
Axe fossil fuel subsidies and replace them with green technologies like algae fuel grown with wastewater. So much of climate activism got pigeonholed into "just use an electric car bro" and trying to sustain pointless consumerism and terrible agriculture practices.
