Have you tried patching from the inside? That's how I've done mine and I like how it shows the original hole with the pop of color coming from within. Albeit, I was patching mid-thigh and lower so I didn't have the patch in a tighter fit area.

Does this look AI generated or assisted to anyone else? The exact shot for shot scenes and twitchy polygons are my reasoning. I don't remember the shader changing during animations, either.
