I've heard some Turkish barbers use fire for this.

Do you call trousers pants in Geordieland?

Knowing what the strange quirk is would add a lot to this anecdote. And maybe a clue as to your cultural milieu?

Otherwise we're all just thinking about every (self-percevied) quirk that we try to tell ourselves nobody else notices lol.

Obviously that should be in an advisory capacity, and not making decisions (like approving drugs for human use [which i heavy doubt was actually happening])

Right, I'm no expert (and very far from an AI fanboi), but not all "AI" are LLMs. I've heard there's good use cases in protein folding, recognising diagnostic patterns in medical images.

It fits with my understanding that you could train a similar model on more constrained datasets than 'all the English language text on the Internet' and it might be good at certain jobs.

Am I wrong?

Taking the lift when you can easily manage the stairs is a waste of energy and contributes to global toastiness. Also, it's hard enough to get enough physical activity in, the stairs is like a free mini workout!

This time round they're coming from the west!

Absolutely mental that the person who posted this pic didn't know the reference.

I'm old.

My sibling in autism, in the English phrasiology "You're as _ as the day I _ you", the adjective is to be understood as applying to the subject both times (i.e. "You're as _ as (you were on) the day I _ you").

Bone is classed as a composite material, I think? Or maybe just ceramic...

If you're going to eat the cheese straight, why not just get the un-shredded version? Then you can cut chunks off, or alternatively just bite it straight off the block.

My use case: I'm an engineering student, I need something with a lot of storage, hopefully SSD (right not I have MatLab, Anaconda and KiCAD taking up most of my 128 GB HD, and I had to uninstall the STM32 cube IDE from lack of storage), and reasonable processing performance so I can actually run these things at a reasonable rate. I need to stay within the windows/ms office world to simplify collaborating and file sharing etc. I'm not using it for gaming. Don't need a massive screen, or touchscreen or anything fancy. HDMI port would be reasonably important.

I want it to last me at least the next 4-5 years, and I'm hoping to not spend more than about £300.

I know a lot of people reccomend ThinkPads, what's a good model to get cheap at the moment? Or any other suggestions?

Is Windows 11 so bad that I should only be looking at ones that come with Windows 10 installed?

Thanks for any helpful advice!

Edit: Thanks to everyone for taking the time to advise me, I've ordered a refurbished T480 with 1TB ssd, plenty of ram, and a 1 year warranty for £340.

I've been doing secret Santa with my family the last few years, but the webapps we use are always so annoying to use. You get an email every time your giftee updates their list or answers a question, but you need to sign in to the ad-riddled platform to see what is going on. You can make a wishlist, but only through links to Amazon.

Isn't there a better way?
