You found the checklist all my teammates in Marvel Rivals apparently use

Ooh, thanks for pointing that out. The image was uploaded in November 2021 so it's older than I realised

I've found Android TV to be the most usable TV OS tbh. I use Konstakang's LineageOS Android TV 15 image on a Pi 5 which is source available (non commercial only licence). And Projectivy Launcher (closed source but is by an indie dev and better than the stock Google one). The Pi is CEC compatible so I can control it with my TV remote no problem, and I use Moonlight to stream games from my PC.

If you already have hardware, there may be an Android x86 TV release somewhere but I haven't personally tested any, and you have to make sure the apps you want support x86 (all the open source ones like Jellyfin should)

Edit to add: I also personally haven't found a need to install GApps as all the apps I use are either open source, or were made to work also on FireTV so don't rely on GApps APIs. (Use SmartTube instead of YouTube, it's a better experience anyway)

A quick search says there are 55,000 games on Steam. 19,000 is just over a third of all Steam games guaranteed to work on Linux with no issues.

I've also seen Moscow Mule renamed to Kyiv Mule in a few places

I built a near identical server for my parents and just sync my nextcloud folder to theirs using syncthing

Use your browser's reader mode - it should strip out anything like that and let you read it as pretty much just raw text

Remember back in school there would always be that one kid who was able to get the teacher talking and going off topic so the class had to do less work?

Basically learn to do that in your interviews. If you're lucky enough to know the name of your interviewer beforehand, stalk their LinkedIn and try and find something they're interested in. People love talking about themselves. If you can manage to get your interviewer rambling about something they like, they will come away feeling it was a good interview, and you'll probably learn a hell of a lot more about what the job is actually like on a day to day basis.

I've found that the smaller the company, the higher the success rate doing something like this. Larger companies tend to have a more rigid interview structure or have multiple interviewers at once.

I'm a 25 yo British guy. I landed my first job as a dev in 2022 for a consultancy with a 1 year international placement, it was good but a few months after returning, the whole cohort was laid off due to corporate politics between the offices in the two countries. After 7 months of searching, I got my second job working for a small pensions fintech startup, it was fine but I didn't find it all that fulfilling. After 9 months of working there, the CEO pulled me into a meeting and said they'd made a mistake hiring me and they needed a more senior developer who could help steer the company from a business perspective too, so I was once again laid off.

That was in January, since then I've had 2 interviews, both of which have gone nowhere. The vibe of every position that's matched my CV has basically been the same sort of work- pretty mundane web dev roles and I can see myself being pulled into a cycle of mundane work then being laid off. I've wanted to be a developer for as long as I can remember, I started writing code when I was 12, studied CS throughout school so I could go to uni and do it for my degree - but now, I feel so disillusioned with the whole industry, where do I go from here? Does it get better? How do I find a job that actually feels fulfilling?

Sorry for the ramble, it's 4am and I just happened to stumble across this community while scrolling. Thought it might be worth an ask.

TLDR; been laid off twice in about 2 and a half years, feeling pretty disillusioned with everything, where do I go from here?

ReVanced mods the official YouTube apk, meaning you maintain syncing watch history, subscriptions, likes, comments etc. Which iirc NewPipe doesn't. Whether you care about that is entirely up to you though, NewPipe is certainly better if you care more about privacy

Indie animation has been increasing in popularity recently. It's clear there is more demand than ever for fresh stories with creators, not large corporations in control. I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of channels with the aim of getting more eyes on the smaller projects, and more people into indie animation as a whole.

To be eligible for this list, creators must be producing an original animated (2d or 3d) work of fiction not based on an existing property. Storytime animators and collections of animated skits (e.g. ASDFmovie) while great and loved by many are not the "right vibe" for this list.

How to use this list

Creators will be listed in alphabetical order by channel name followed by the name of the show in [square brackets]. The list will be updated periodically based on recommendations in the comments. All the initial channels listed here will be from YouTube, but feel free to suggest creators on other platforms.

Various notes will be provided as superscript numbers, the meanings are as follows:

  • ^1 - Only a pilot released
  • ^2 - Pilot not yet released
  • ^3 - Channel frequently uploads other content not related to their own animation

But first the big one

The biggest name in the indie animation space right now is Glitch Productions they make several shows including the immensly popular "Murder Drones" and "The Amazing Digital Circus" with at least two more series currently in the works. For this reason, and because they have also done a lot of work to promote other indie animators I feel they deserve a special mention above the list.
