Their goal wasn't to win you over. It was to create a loyal user base of ad consumers and they succeeded at that

I also succeeded at finding a platform to consume content that isn't ad riddled. Yet.

I think that's partially a cultural difference. The original artist is Chinese and being a murderous warlord is seen as sexier in the USA than in China

The mobile market has plenty of competition.

Fucking lol dude. I'm no economist but there's no shot the mobile phone marketplace counts as "plenty of competition". It's essentially a duopoly. And the barrier to entry is massive.
