So fucking dumb.

Everybody loved OnePlus's alert slider. Nobody wants fucking Bixby button mk2

Google makes a lot of money, and summarising stuff uses a surprisingly small amount of energy. You can do it trivially on-device on a laptop and on plenty of phones.

When it comes to LLMs, training the models is generally the thing that requires ridiculous amounts of energy.

This is dumb as fuck, though. I don't want Google's LLM to miss out critical details in my emails. That shit could be important. If people want this they should opt in.

When I think of Walter Koenig, I think of Bester, not Chekov.

To be blunt, whenever I watched Trek I never got the impression he was particularly good. But then when I saw him in B5, I thought "Damn he can act. Why didn't the Trek show runners take advantage of this?!"

You'd still be let out after your normal sentence, nobody that sets the laws is advocating keeping them there forever.

To be clear, I disagree with it, it seems crazy to me.

I'm just pointing out that this reporting is saying something very different to all other reporting I've seen on this topic. I've not seen anywhere else report it as being forced.

This is the first I've heard of it being mandatory. All other reporting I've seen is prisoners being able to opt in, for a reduced sentence.

Manjaro keeps popping up on devices, and I don't understand how they keep getting these deals.

It's seemingly the only thing they are competent at doing.

12% faster on average, with anywhere from a 30-320% battery life improvement.

Just from a software change.

That is massive. You'd usually need a hardware upgrade for an improvement like that.

To be completely honest, I am a little annoyed about all the people bringing up price.

Well I'm so sorry you're offended (not really), but price is relevent when you're comparing products.

If I was looking at a comparison between two watches and the reviewer brings up price, I'd consider that relevant information.

saying that the price being free adds to the word "massive" being used aptly is just kinda dumb for real.

Again, you're just so wrong.

If product A is better than product B, that's bad enough. If product A also happens to be free while product B costs over $100, then that's extremely notable and should be brought up in a comparison.

Maybe it's your line of thinking that's just kinda dumb for real?

It's just like people don't want to converse man.

You're such a victim. Oh wait, it's you that started being hostile and dismissive. You're the one who doesn't want to have a respectful discussion.

When you talk like that, you shouldn't expect people to treat you nicely in return. People are under no obligation to treat you nicely after you treat them poorly.

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It's pretty clear that talking to you is useless

Indeed. You do seem to struggle with differing opinions, as well as the definitions of words, like how you struggle to understand there's a massive difference in performance between Windows and SteamOS on this handheld.

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm not glorifying shit, I'm just pointing out how very, very wrong you are.

A 12% performance boost on average, simultaneously with a battery life improvement of up to 320%, requiring nothing but a software change is massive, especially when that software is free.

Who the hell brought up price? Certainly not me

Are you purposely being a clown? I brought up price, because it's relevant in comparing two things.

Why are you so butt hurt that SteamOS is massively better on some handheld you probably don't even own? Why are you so hurt by this news?

Donations and grants.

Nationalising now would cost hundreds of billions.

Or, if you went down the banana republic route of forcibly nationalising without any compensation, and ignored the laws that currently prevent that, investment into the UK would plummet.

Investment in the UK already took a big hit from Brexit, we don't need to make it worse.

The government is already the operator of last resort for the water companies. That means if the companies go bust any nobody steps in to buy them, the government takes over automatically.

I think the government should state they won't be bailing out these water companies if they fail. That's how it should be for any private investment.

When Thames and others go bust, the government steps in and takes over automatically as Operator Of Last Resort, theoretically with a tremendously lower cost to public finances.
