Yeah the Apple Watch was kinda the final straw that got me to switch over from Android. The amount of effort required to root a phone hard enough to where apps couldn't stalk me wasn't helping.
Apple's made privacy a fairly large part of their value offering recently. The main issue remains integrating with other local services.
It still defends against one failure mode (the website gets hacked but you're ok) but yeah, obviously if you get hacked and the hacker knows how to get your vault out then you're 100% screwed.
My suggestion is always hardware 2FA, even though it's not as mature as the other systems. Personally I have two Yubikeys (in case one breaks/gets lost) but it does mean that I need to add TOTPs to both of them each time I add a new 2FA.

It is absolutely not a requirement. It's a very common opinion that people hold, and from what I've seen it tends to lead to people to end up with extreme right-wing opinions and an us-vs.-them mentality for literally every aspect of their lives, leading to racism, sexism, transphobia, etc.

Instead of money? I would imagine it would be money.
It's not that people stop working. We still need food, shelter, communication, entertainment, etc. Money is how you convert goods, and I don't understand how you think that need would vanish.
But worker efficiency is through the roof. One farmer can grow enough to feed thousands of people. A factory with 10 people can make millions of a given product a year. We can communicate from across the globe without anyone having to carry the message by hand. What makes you think we can't at the very least give everyone food and shelter in those circumstances? No one intrinsically has to suffer. It only happens because of human greed.
Lol what. We have machines and automation now. We can just make manufacturing equipment "suffer" while the humans "get ahead".
The zero-sum worldview has been dead since the industrial revolution. Any widespread suffering at this point is the fault of humans.

I've at least heard people defending PHP recently. Supposedly it's, uh, better than before.
That said if there was a community fork of Lemmy that people started organizing around I wouldn't mind seeing if there was something I could help with.
Fwiw I'm in this thread for discussing policies of Lemmy instances, not ethics of rule of law.
On another topic, there are rumors circulating that we are fascists or supported genocide.
This is the part that I think will make it more difficult, since I imagine there are quite a few devs that would rather contribute to projects by less politically-outspoken project owners.
(I would also note that they don't deny being tankies, and tankies tend to insist they aren't fascists. They also deny the Uyghur genocide so they have that going for them too.)
