Yup, for sure that happens. Esp in S America. But thankfully, it's pretty easy to spot.
It's also pretty easy to spot the folks who are totally independent, working out of their own homes, with their own gear.

Yup, left Duolingo at the start of this year and broke my 1500+ day streak. Because the AI slop was terrible. From nonsensical language to math questions that were flat-out wrong, I just saw zero benefit to continuing to give them money.
This is why Canadians won't cross the border. The US is no longer a safe country to visit. Innocent people being thrown in to concentration camps and shipped off to El Salvadore to die... Thanks, but no thanks. Ima go to France this holiday instead. Nice and safe over there.
Yup. Boycott is only part of it. The other part is that it's not safe. ICE is out of control and has already sent Canadians to jail for zero reason.
I'm planning a 15 hr drive next month that I'd normally do thru the US as it shaves a few hours off. But not this time. You literally couldn't pay me to cross that border - I can't risk getting shipped off to some concentration camp in El Salvidore because ICE doesn't like my hybrid car, or whatever.

I can tell you from experience that AI was worse at teaching me a language than humans were.
