I would agree if ads were the only sustainable way to fund content on the internet. They're not. Direct fractional funding should be the universally accepted scheme and until companies figure that out, adblock all the way!

You are literally the kind of liberal smuglord this meme is about.

Forgive me, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to engage in some liberal smuglordery :P

I want a society where the capitalist class is abolished, so that it no longer leeches off the labor of the working class.

Very cool goal! I wish you luck. However, to achieve your goals you must be rational and pragmatic. The situation in the context of this thread is thus: we have for-profit company Framework making laptops that are highly repairable, friendly to third party mods, and open source software (all things I hope we all agree are "good"). We also have the rest of the industry, most of which are also for-profit which does not do these things. I view the rhetorically pragmatic choice here, given the assumption that Framework contributes to some higher individual utility compared to anything else, is to support their mission, as opposed to dissing them as that in theory may put people off and they may stay with the less ethical companies instead. Or start your own laptop company that's even better than framework and then diss them ;)

I think as I slowly go more insane and become more cranky, I find myself increasingly wanting a horrible authoritarian state that just does exactly what I want, because everything I like is awesome, and everything everyone else thinks is bad and evil or whatever.

Mood 😅

I get your skepticism, but I do think there is some value in specific ideologies like Georgism, namely that you can actually try them out slowly and reverse course if needed. I'm mostly against a wide scale federal land value tax at a high percentage off the bat, but I do think its probably worth trying it out locally or at a low percentage to see what happens.

There actually is a solution that doesn't involve destroying capitalism: mixed-use zoning, tax on the unimproved value of land, and small UBI.

Honesty kinda conflicted on representative term limits. Longer term people can be out of touch, but they also have a lot of experience and know how to collaborate to get laws passed 🤔

Now that you finally realize, you immediately wonder: if I'm a cake, how can I think? Do I have a brain made out of cake? Or were brains really just a distraction this whole time and cognition comes from something else? As you contemplate this metaphysical conundrum, you think back to all the other cakes you've encountered in your life, you feel dizzy for a second and it hits you in a wave of nausea, cake batter coming up your throat, Were all those cakes I ate, over all those years, conscious?

Boycott the journals! Both the readers and the researchers!

Eugenics (by some definitions) doesn't even have to be unethical if you turn left off of "state-enforced sterilization highway" and on to "provide the opportunity to let people optimise their children's genome street". It is basically transhumanism at that point. Probably still some problems there, but at least its not coercive, and its also already possible today. Equality of access to polygenetic screening I say!
