I don't believe the content I'm trying to download is age restricted, but I have not set up the JS challenge solver, so I'll look into that. Thanks!

I am looking to download entire playlists and/or channels from YouTube. I know I can do this with yt-dlp, but for the content I'm attempting to download, it requires me to pass some cookie settings to yt-dlp, which I believe involves first signing into YouTube, which I don't want to do.

My next thought was to see if I can accomplish the same task through Invidious. I can download individual videos through Invidious, but I don't see a way to download an entire playlist.

Is there any way of downloading an entire playlist (or channel) without signing in, through Invidious or some other tool?

Or if I'm misunderstanding the mechanic of passing a cookie to yt-dlp (like if there's a way of doing this without signing in), please let me know. Thank you!

Thanks for the idea about exporting torrent data using the CLI - I'll look into that.

Re: linking, I currently use sym links to avoid duplicating storage across multiple trackers. My main reason for sym links is so I can link across different devices (my understanding is hard links are limited to the same device). Hard link or sym link aside, the problem is for a given torrent, I don't want to delete it from any trackers if it's performing on at least one of them. My thought process is if I'm keeping the content around for even just one of my trackers, I may as well keep cross seeding it, if for no other reason than to earn that sweet bon. The hard part is identifying which torrents are performing poorly across all trackers. If I can get the data into CSV format, then I think I can massage it well enough to tell which (poorly performing) torrents can be safely purged from all trackers.

I'll check it out. Alternative solutions are always welcome. Thanks.

At present, I have limited disk space for my media library, so occasionally I must purge content I've already watched or acquired long ago but never watched. I'm big into letting my winners run, so when choosing which content to purge, I want to just sort by Ratio in qBittorrent and start purging anything older than 30 days that isn't getting uploads. The problem is, more often than not I'm cross seeding the same content across multiple trackers, so although a specific torrent on a specific trackers may be performing poorly, that doesn't mean the same content isn't performing well on another tracker.

I know how to select, right click, and Copy > Name. Is there a way to export the grid view so that I can do some data manipulation in LibreCalc?

I've searched and stumbled upon this thread from over a year ago where it appears the OP is attempting something similar. I don't mind getting my hands dirty with the web UI and/or the API, but since I'm not a developer, I thought I'd check w/ the community before I go that route. Also, one of the commenters in the other thread that I linked mentions parsing the save data directly - are they talking about parsing the fastresume files or something else? Thanks!

Very good point, thank you for chiming in.

[–] barnaclebill@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Good point, and I agree - after reading all the responses, I'm leaning toward spending the few extra bucks so that I don't have to fret all the potential scenarios that might require transcoding.

[–] barnaclebill@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago (7 children)

I'll double check my various devices' specs before I move forward. Thanks for confirming that.

I'm planning a NAS/media server build for general centralized storage + Jellyfin to stream my media library, which consists of a mix of AVC, HEVC, and AV1 encoded videos. I'll be watching on various devices, primarily on the living room TV w/ a Chromecast. The Chromecast is capable of playing AV1 videos (I know this b/c it says "direct playing" in the Jellyfin media info panel on my current setup).

Given that my Chromecast is capable of direct playing AV1 encodes, when I source the parts for my new server build, does my new server also need to be capable of AV1 transcoding or does this capability only matter if the client device doesn't support AV1 video? I ask because I'll possibly source my build from used parts, and the answer to this question may impact which generation Intel processors I focus on. I'm currently focusing on 12th gen i5-12400 b/c it has QSV capabilities and supports AV1, but if AV1 support isn't needed for my server, then I may look for older gens to save a few bucks. Thank you!

Do you know if Proton's port forwarding times out and needs to be reconfigured every so often in the same way the other commenter mentions about Windscribe?

I had not read about this criticism of KPMG before. For the benefit of other readers, I found this other forum post from March 2025 where commenters question the worthiness of the KPMG audit for PureVPN. For my own part, I'm not sure I understand what an audit that's acceptable to privacy communities would look like. If somebody can elaborate on this, I would appreciate it.

Update for YuScene: Open registration has ended, but applications are still open.

So the twist is that many users are reporting errors during the registration process. They aren't receiving the activation email. When they try to register again, the page says an account already exists. When they try resetting their password, they don't receive the reset password email, either. If anyone successfully registers, please report back in this thread how you did it.

I was afraid of that, but thanks for confirming.

[–] barnaclebill@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 months ago

My only reservation was that it'll take a really long time (several terabytes on traditional HDDs) but perhaps that is the way to go.

I'm in the midst of a migration to a new Linux distro and I'm stuck on restoring my qBittorrent setup from my previous install. Both environments are desktop versions of Linux - previously Bazzite, switching to Debian.

Prior to wiping the OS drive that had Bazzite on it, I had backed up my BT_data and config folders to a separate data drive. After installing Debian, I've copied my BT_data and config folders back to the right place on the new OS, however the issue I'm running into now is that when I open qBittorrent for the first time, all my torrents say Missing Files. This checks out seeing as the paths are slightly different, /run/media/oldusername/data instead of just /media/newusername/data. I started doing a force re-check on all my torrents and realized it'll take a very long time seeings as I have 6 TB of data to re-check.

I did a "find and replace" in all the config files to update the default save paths and the save paths for all my categories, but that wasn't enough.

Has anyone else gone through a qBittorrent migration and run into this problem? If so, how did you overcome it? Any other tips I should try?

I'm thinking of going back to Bazzite just to see if I can replicate the paths and get qBittorrent to recognize all my files again without having to re-check everything. I might also try setting up sym links to duplicate the original paths from the Bazzite install. I think these two approaches might be faster than re-checking my whole library. I am a tad concerned about getting hit with HnR's on some of my trackers since I've been offline for about 24 hours now. And I did not do a full backup of my previous OS (lmaoooo), so there's nowhere for me to go but forward. Thanks in advance for your help!

They might be flexible with that requirement. People who aren't already on two PTs should use the text box to explain their situation and get creative with their screenshots - for example, show stats in your torrent client proving you continue to seed your downloads. Make a good faith effort and they might look past your lack of other PTs. Good luck.

LST is open for applications for their three-year anniversary. I believe they'll stay open until Fri Aug 1 @ midnight UTC.

Rules:

  • Seeding: You must seed downloaded torrents at least for 3 days as soon as you downloaded more than 10% of a torrent. Regardless of your ratio. The seedtime starts counting as soon as you have 100% downloaded. You do not have to seed your torrent 24/7, but you must fill the required seed time within 21 days after downloading. Completed requests needs to be seeded for 10 days!
  • Inactivity: Accounts get automatically disabled after 90 days of no activity, activity is seen as either logging in to the site or seeding at least 1 torrent. Certain classes have a perk preventing being disabled due to inactivity, check class perks for these. Once disabled you get an e-mail with a link to re-activate your account by logging back in. Accounts get soft deleted 120 days after being disabled.
  • Ratio Requirement: 0.4
  • VPNs: Yes
