Right, the alawites were oppressed when they had minority rule just like how the Afrikaners were oppressed in apartheid South Africa. We'll have to wait and see. Good talking to you.

Until you answer "what more do you want" I'm assuming you want al-Julani to personally gather up the perpetratora and lead them all in singing Kumbayah.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_2025_Western_Syria_clashes

Alawites weren't marginalized under Assad. That's why there's a strong pro-assad alawite faction doing things like ambushing government troops. In fact, Assad's family was alawite and he put alawites in leadership positions in the government and military, in fact.

How much reading have you done outside of the OP article and maybe one or two others in the mainstream media? Did you even realize the regime was collapsing before it was over? I ask because I really think you're worse informed than I am

keep an open mind and watch him govern

That's what I've been doing, and what the author here seemingly hasn't

The ones in Iraq? Can't fault him for that

doing nothing to stop massacres of Christians and alawites

"On March 10, al-Sharaa condemned the recent mass killings of Alawite Muslims... He pledged to hold all perpetrators accountable, including those within his own ranks"

What more do you want? This is after alawite assadist insurgents ambushed government troops, by the way. This is all from Wikipedia.

Of course he's unelected, he just ousted the old boss. They're working with an interim government. They only just got around to parliamentary elections. If they don't hold presidential elections within their five year target you can come back and make me eat crow.

And by the way, the majority of the "those poor alawites" articles I saw while looking this up were from Israeli publications. So consider who you're shoulder to shoulder with on this.

Atrocious article. Ridiculously biased wording: Al-Julani "mutated". He "shed" his old clothes.

As for content, basically fuck all. "He's a sectarian dictator and he's doing familial nepotism." "Iran doesn't like him for sectarian reasons." How about actually analyze his policies and statements? From everything I've read he's interested in a stable, secular, Democratic Syria and is courting foreign recognition and investment.

Not in NYC

Low impact on your joints, aside from arm wear and tear. It's tiring because running and jumping on sand takes a ton of cardio

why is it breaking news

Why hate on people sharing positive news?

Sorry if this is a bit off topic. I want to learn more about what protective gear is recommended at a protest. The obvious threats I want to be less susceptible to are CS gas, rubber bullets to the face, and LRAD. So I want impact protection and no unfiltered airflow for my eyes (and ideally the rest of my face), filtration for my nose and mouth, and hopefully earplugs and earmuffs. Solutions I’ve thought of:

  • half face respirator and some sort of goggles. Not bad but what goggles are both airtight and impact resistant?
  • half face respirator and doubling up eye protection? May not be practical
  • full face respirator. Chinesium is $30, 3M is around $110. Does that include impact protection? Not sure. They may get in the way of earmuffs, too
  • Milsurp gas mask. Probably fits the bill, though may get in the way of earmuffs. Are they at all ergonomic compared to contractor/industrial stuff?

So yeah, lots of questions. Anyone know of any good resources discussing this?

I left a little after 9. Did anyone wind up getting arrested? Any vandalism? Tear gas, rubber bullets?

The rollout of RCS on iMessage has been confusing to me. I know some carriers like Mint don't yet support iMessage RCS; the company's founder has said that it's something on their end that will be fixed around December. But I've also seen some people on Apple's forums pointing fingers at Apple.

I want to get a better understanding of what the holdup is. How does the iMessage RCS bridge work? What are the technical challenges? Why was every carrier not working on this for months and prepared for the iOS 18 rollout? And if I'm using Google Messages on an MVNO that doesn't yet support iMessage RCS, does that imply I can't RCS message an iPhone user on a carrier that does support it?

I noticed this hole when I got to work in the morning. It lets out enough air that I can hear it when I try to inflate the tire. What are my options here, aside from buying and mounting a new tire? Is this fixable with liquid sealant? A rubber rope kit?

I'm not taking this bike past 90mph, so any fix doesn't need to be capable of withstanding incredibly high stress. But I don't want to be unsafe, either. Thanks for the help.
