There is no paradox. If you don't tolerate people you are not covered by tolerance.
They are in an earthquake zone, almost in famine and with a fundamentalist dictatorship. What "bad things" can make it worse?
Maybe they should split the design and the manufacturing. Everyone can throw a design to the table and then choose the best. And then and only then talk about which part is build by which partner.
This is to stop the flotilla.

The only possible good way of making that movie is moving it forward in time to the 2000s or something like that to avoid the comparison to the 80s series and still have some nostalgia in it from 20-ish years ago.
Maybe pulling ALL from Nexstar and Sinclair could be a good way.
That could work of nobody knew it was changing to another hands. But once everybody knows it's not the same, people flee.
