Sadly, there have been Nazi and white supremacist rallies all over the country, often and every year for quite some time. It's really sad, but that's the reality.

But I think is more notable recently, and more disturbing, is that they're getting more press and less pushback from the media rather than being ostracized and ignored as they have been in the past.

So... don't engage with them then. You don't have to reply. They don't have to either. You're both fanning the flames of arguments you both claim you don't want to have.

This 100%. I use YouTube Music and have a premium subscription and it's fantastic. Even without premium it's still great.

I left that garbage heap many years ago. Rogan's show is just one of the pieces of garbage in the pile there.

It would still be "I'm just asking questions" about whether or not the moon landing happened and if lizard people exist.

But "shouldn't stop them from here" and "self-moderate" are in conflict with one another. What is self-moderation if an entire instance is troll farm, or hate group? Should that self-moderation not include defedding as an option?
If I have a party in my house and a bunch of rowdy people show up, I have a series of escalating options to stop the problem ranging from asking one of them to stop, to kicking the entire group out of my house and never letting them come back. Defedding is the last of those, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be an option when other methods are not working.

Exactly. When TendieMaster69 says "self-moderate" I think defedding should 100% be a part of that self-moderation toolkit. That's all defedding is - an instance saying "nope, we're done with your b.s." I don't see why that should be off the table.

So what you're suggesting works in theory, but not in practice. There are times when simply ignoring bad actors or voting them down within a community is not enough to stop them from misbehaving. Try ostracizing a botnet. Or nicely asking trolls to stop posting racist memes. It won't work.

Of course they can be disabled. But sites are not all built the same way, so there isn't one silver bullet we can tell you about to disable them everywhere. On mobile it's even more difficult because access to browser plugins is more limited, along with developer features within the browser.

I also use FF on Android, and until recently was also using Reddit. There isn't a good way to remove that bar.
