Fungi sounds interesting, which is so weird!

Interesting list of books. Have fun!

Hmm...

I have read only his Kaiju Preservation Society and it's good. I got the first few books of Old Man's War, and plan to start it soon.

[–] dresden@discuss.online 1 points 9 hours ago

Yeah, reading is great for that.

Maybe it's my bias since I already know, but it sounds like a book written by an AI.

For the first time in my life, upvoted a deleted comment, only because of you! 😀

[–] dresden@discuss.online 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, but since I am reading them close to each other, with about a month or two gap, it seems like a nice change of pace. Like some TV shows would randomly have a musical episode in there, just for fun. This isn't fun like that, but it's still a different view into the world. Things we didn't know much about.

Loving it for now. Not sure how I'll feel by then end though.

Amra Thetys Series sounds fun. Clichés when executed well can be fun. Will take a look!

Other than what Jaymes mentioned below (above?), it's an urban fantasy, protagonist is a wizard in a chicago, working as a PI. Starts from there, but characters evolve as the series progresses.

Also, "dresden" isn't my real name 😀

Why didn't you like Old Man's War, and do you like Scalzi's other work?

You copied my bingo square "x of y"!

Fifth Season is a very depressing book. I had hard time reading and finishing the series. Not a bad book though.

[–] dresden@discuss.online 2 points 1 day ago

Never read it, adding to my list.

Nice. Learning a new language? Or just a different language you already knew?

Reading a book is a great way to improve your language skills, also makes learning fun.

Started next book in the Dresden Files series, Ghost Story by Jim Butcher. This is book 13, and is pretty unique so far. The previous book "Changes" has changed quite a bit, and now we are living those changes.

Can't put it down, want to see how it develops!

My previous book, Streams of Silver covers 2 bingo squares: Title: [X] of [Y] and Off your TBR pile (hard mode).

What about all of you? What have you been reading or listening to lately?

Life is still pretty busy, not getting much time for Lemmy, but at least got some time to read now.

Still reading Streams of Silver by R. A. Salvatore. Book 2 of the series. Am more than halfway through now, if nothing comes up, should be able to finish it this week.

What about all of you? What have you been reading or listening to lately?

Finished Amulet series by Kazu Kibushi.

Love the story and art-style. Highly recommended for fantasy fans, specially younger audience.

Read Changes by Jim Butcher, book 12 of The Dresden Files.

I was expecting some "changes" due to the name and how people talk about the book, but wow, they changed everything. From the first line of the book to the last, it was fully captivating.

Wanted to start the next book right away, but held myself back.

Read Aftermath, the novella after Changes, from Side Jobs , short-story collection in Dresden Files world. This was the last story in the book, so I have officially finished Side Jobs too.

Many side stories are from point of view of different characters, and this was also from another character's point of view. So it was interesting to see how they view the world and hear their inner monologue.

Looking forward to where the story goes from here.

Finished Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson. Book 2 of second era of Mistborn.

It was interesting where the story is going. Character development and the world building is interesting. Not a big fan of how the book ended, but I guess this is how it had to be. Looking forward to the next book.

Finished Gangsta Granny by David Williams.

My kid got it from school library, and wanted me to read it too. It's mainly about how kids find old people boring and old people weren't always old, they lived a life before reaching this age. A fun middle-grade novel. Highly recommended (for kids).

Also read it's sequel Gangsta Granny Strikes Again

The first half felt a bit childish to me (that's not a negative, it is a children's book), but enjoyed the latter half, but mentioning any of that will be a spoiler for the first book. If you read the first book and like it, I would also highly recommend the sequel.

Reading Amulet series by Kazu Kibushi. It's a graphic novel series for middle-grade, and was highly recommended by Brandon Sanderson.

There are 9 books in total, I have been getting them one at a time but was waiting to collect all the books before starting it. So, finally got the whole set and started reading it. Have finished the first 5, and am currently reading the 6th one.

Highly recommended for fantasy fans, both young and old.

I have been a bit busy, and with not too much motivation to do much, so am still at the same place as last week.

Still reading Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson. Book 2 of second era of Mistborn.

I did read a bit more of it though, and it was interesting to see the antagonist and some of the other characters who appeared.
