The linked page auto playing audio after it was opened, I can't even find where on the page it is coming from. No matter how hard I try to disable options for this they always change or make new ones.

FYI turn down your volume if in public.

You are being down voted because you didn't answer the question you just complained about a conspiracy you've imagined.

Clinicians and epidemiologists have long known that measles infection increases childhood morbidity and mortality for as long as 5 years after illness, and measles in the pre-vaccination era was likely associated with at least half of all childhood deaths from infectious diseases.

The tax on non Muslims (jizyah) was in a way beneficial to creating a heterogenous environment. Anybody who tried to expel members of different faiths suffered an immediate loss of income and soon saw the err of their ways. And the more prosperous non-muslims are, the more tax they can pay, so it also gives a reason to take special care of them and help them to prosper.

I don't think it was really such a big deal back then beyond your kind of baseline drama and conflict humans always get up to. But not much special aminosity between these two groups.

Christians tend towards higher than average belligerence but don't over generalize from them.

everyone driving around with these dash cams and other devices, why can't other drivers take pics of these people and submit them to have them fined?

each photo from a different perspective is and additional ticket. the more people you annoy the more it costs.

(better would be automatic cameras at intersections)

trade war has nothing to do with it?

re the students, has the actual number of students attending school declined so much? I didn't follow that story too closely. If the number of students is similar, shouldn't the housing needs remain constant?

This is the argument you are defending:

Private Property seems like a natural extension of Animal Territory ( animals fight over boundaries and expressed need for an area to roam )

How much roaming territory does a magpie express?

Silly argument.

Conservative religious groups, and Mennonites are part of that, already have a strong distrust of government.

that's not true. many governments around the world are substantially controlled by people who are members of conservative religions. and lots of conservative religious organizations are well integrated into their relevant governments. to the point of theocracies, which don't tend towards being extremely progressive.

If you hear about a place that the Catholic Church is controlling party of the government, you don't think "Oh I bet it's some wild Liberation Theology situation where the women are free and there are land reforms to redistribute the land equally". You know it'll be some regressive, repressive backwards ass shit show.

there were Amish people (a related group) who were charged for not getting a covid vaccine passport

Where? Where has a "vaccine passport" even been implemented?

RCMP: Ideologically motivated violent extremism: four individuals charged

One of the accused allegedly created and administered an Instagram account with the aim of recruiting new members to the anti-government militia.

Numerous firearms were seized by police officers during searches in January 2024.

Military-style training in which the accused took part.

NYT: Canadian Armed Group Charged in Plot to Seize Quebec Land

The men charged with terrorism offenses were identified as Marc-Aurèle Chabot, 24, and Raphaël Lagacé, 25, both of Quebec City, and Simon Angers-Audet, 24, of Neuville, Quebec. Matthew Forbes, 33, of Pont-Rouge, Quebec, was charged with the explosives and weapons offenses.

Mr. Forbes and Mr. Chabot are corporals in the Canadian Armed Forces stationed at a large base northwest of Quebec City, the military said in a statement on Tuesday evening. The armed forces added that another of the accused men is a former member of the Canadian Forces while the fourth man was once a civilian instructor with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Neither of those men were identified by name.

In the statement, the police said that the men facing the terrorism charges had been “planning to create anti-government militia.”

Here are the contractors who helped build Alligator Alcatraz

The other state contractors include Deployed Resources LLC, the port-a-potty company Doodie Calls, GardaWorld, Garner Environmental Services, Gothams LLC, Granny’s Alliance, Longview International Technological Solutions and SLS-WSP JV.

GardaWorld Cash, one of several companies affiliated with GardaWorld — one of the world’s largest security services companies, according to its website — gave $5,000 to DeSantis’ Empower Parents political action committee in 2018. The political organization, which went by Friends of Ron DeSantis at the time, was created to support DeSantis’ first bid for governor.

GardaWorld has also been eyed for Florida’s immigration agenda before — it was one of the vendors picked by the state to fly migrants out of Florida. A representative from GardaWorld did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday evening.

It wasn't clear to me where Canada comes in or what the ownership is, but clicking over to About GardaWorld it is clarified.

After identifying an opportunity to consolidate the fragmented private security industry, Stephan Crétier founded GardaWorld (then Trans-Quebec Security Inc.) in 1995 with a $25,000 investment derived from a second mortgage on his home. Only a few years later, the company was making $40 million annually in revenue. Over the past 30 years, he has built one of the world’s largest security services companies organically and through strategic M&A.

Mr. Crétier remains a highly-driven and engaged entrepreneur leading a strong bench of exceptionally talented and empowered managers. GardaWorld differentiates itself through a unique performance-based culture with strict accountability for operational performance. The company adheres to a deep ownership mentality with Mr. Crétier and management holding a majority equity ownership stake in the business, which is now valued at C$14 billion.

I picked up an old/cheap digital TV antenna and plugged it into my TV and watching regular TV for the first time in 20+ years.

The automatic channel scan picks up 9 stations here in Toronto. I was hoping for PBS but no luck. I don't think I even have english CBC. Where is it supposed to be?

There isn't a TV guide station anymore.

So far the best thing I found is OMNI TV where I just watched the news in Tagalog (I think) and now it's on again in Arabic. On a weekend where time is happening, the English that's sprinkled in is enough to make it interesting to me.

WTF someone vandalized "fuck gaza" on a Muslim Association of Canada building in Montreal. News is perhaps suggesting people donate to https://handsforcharity.org/ 🍉

I wish this was subtitled in english to appease my anglo chauvinism.

Anyways in a general sense how do you find out what's on TV
