seems unlikely, see here for reference

well would you look at that, some consequences

[–] froztbyte@awful.systems 12 points 4 days ago

"posting from the slop hole" is probably the best description possible for this, brb stealing

[–] froztbyte@awful.systems 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

me here still steelman-following casey and masnick and such all like 😬😬😬

[–] froztbyte@awful.systems 5 points 5 days ago

god this sounds exhausting

[–] froztbyte@awful.systems 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

accountability sink go brrr

(and to step on my pedestal for a moment: turns out “flat file” semantics for reasoning about and managing computer instructions is kinda fucking terrible, who knew?! (gods I wish we could have had some of the alternatives… worse is better is why they won out, but we could do so much better with modern compute capacity..))

lol, lmao even

I wonder what will happen if people still continue (and I’m sure a few can afford to..)

but holy shit talk about absolute desperation…

^ this

all the other stuff around it is bloody unhinged, including how kent reacted when someone promoted his bot to reply in a manner that didn’t fit his deluded conception of it

from a distance, it looks like the kind of unhinged that doesn’t take much to progress into being dangerous

slowly burning through the latest BTB eps (on epstein), getting to the point in ep3 about the discussions/events around ~2016 and just ...... god

the remarks and then-recent actions, wrt affecting the internet and the social technological comms structure of humanity as a whole, and then rapidity of a bunch of shit starting to turn to shit 2014~2016 (as I've remarked on in previous posts)...

I'd want to see more threads checked into and researched in depth (and I know that some stuff (partly?) also had their own drivers), but fucking hell there's a lot of apparent overlap. dunno if I can take on that investigation (my stats derivation/calculation skills border on a warcrime), but other than that would be interesting to see some analyses

[–] froztbyte@awful.systems 5 points 1 week ago

and the W is for "wailing"

[–] froztbyte@awful.systems 2 points 1 week ago

just 100 more billion bro please bro just 100 more billion bro, we'll solve statistics bro you'll see bro just 100 more billion bro

(and then in a year it'll be 500b...)

ye, and they only notice when e.g. food production (that impacts them) is interrupted. outside of that you get a brief fascination with disaster porn, but never enough to do anything concrete

stumbled over this in my feed earlier, looks interesting

seen via this

might be a cool thing some here may enjoy contributing to

Just ran across this and figured I’d link to people, looks interesting

I forgot to post it here earlier but it's revision weekend!

in the spirit of this post, but from the other side

I have a shitdroid that I can't root because the vendor sucks, but google can go fuck themselves too. combined with that I haven't androided much for about a decade and know nothing about the current ecosystem.. I'm looking for good alternatives to a few things. free/foss preferred but I'm pragmatic over picky - if there's a good paid option I'm willing to consider it

immediate known requirements include contact sync, calendar (more business than personal but either works if it's good). maybe also other things I should know about?

judicuous preference to things that support open protocols and self-hosting (i.e. anything that has to use their service to operate - no go)

tell me about good apps! I know about syncthing and photosync

some of the sub’s friends are holding a conference although they’re still not totally comfortable to go public:

but buyers are warned that purchases will “require approval”

aww, the poor babies. even with literal nazis in the whitehouse they still feel uncomfortable to spout their weird shit

hopefully if this thing happens at all, someone documents the everliving hell out of every attendee

some months ago I mentioned I couldn’t see comments in safari but could in fx (on ios). figured it out now: the 1Blocker “disable comments” filter sweepingly includes lemmy comment field types, but for some reason only on safari and not fx (despite apple forcing engine as they do)

the fix: add awful.systems as an allowed domain inside 1Blocker config

the precision and clarity are astounding

by the time the hilbert curves got there my mouth was hanging open, and it still gets better

Need to let loose a primal scream without collecting footnotes first? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid: Welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful you’ll near-instantly regret.

Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.

If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cut’n’paste it into its own post — there’s no quota for posting and the bar really isn’t that high.

The post Xitter web has spawned soo many “esoteric” right wing freaks, but there’s no appropriate sneer-space for them. I’m talking redscare-ish, reality challenged “culture critics” who write about everything but understand nothing. I’m talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. They’re inescapable at this point, yet I don’t see them mocked (as much as they should be)

Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldn’t be surgeons because they didn’t believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I can’t escape them, I would love to sneer at them.

Last week's thread

(Semi-obligatory thanks to @dgerard for starting this)

'cuz I definitely do

“stepping away because I want to create the time and space to do my own exploration.”

yeah I completely believe you, weird lady. I too want to vaguely step into the warm embrace of my piles of ill-gotten gold, forgetting about the stressors of how to sell something that doesn’t exist and that you helped claim would be here really soon now. ahhh, bliss..

one’s gotta wonder about the timing of this announcement, right? like come the fuck on

I will say I'm not much of a fan of mysqls but uhhhhh this seems bad
