I agree these aren't the best of times, but I'm also not certain there will not be better days. The more people that decide this is it and give up, the more likely the best is behind us.

That is not the purpose of DEI initiatives, it frames DEI as an advantage which it is not. It is about recognizing our inherent bias, understanding the strength of diversity, and empowering teams to benefit from diversity by fostering environments where all team members feel respected and empowered to contribute.
Everyone in this image has allowed the fascist demonization of DEI to define their own understanding of it, even if subconsciously. That should cause concern, not applause.

Turns out no one knows what devil's advocate means
This is "devil's advocate" in the same way ventilated neck guy engaged in "debate".
In fact, trying to equate attempts to identify law enforcement engaged in unconstitutional acts is the same type of sophistry practiced by alt right dipshits.
I use gawk all the fucking time, if you spend a lot of time in a terminal or parse text often it is definitely worth the investment. It is a fantastic tool for both one liners and full scripts. The gawk manual is short enough to digest in a day or two.
