"Time to embrace your inner twin, double your ideas, and maybe argue with yourself about what to draw first. This prompt is all about duality—the cosmic kind, the human kind, or the kind that happens when you sketch something, hate it, and immediately start over.

For the zodiac fans, Gemini is the sign of the twins, full of curiosity, contradictions, and conversations (with yourself or others). It’s a symbol of dual perspectives, shifting identities, and seeing both sides of the story. So whether you go with mystical mirror images, doppelgängers, or two-headed creatures with attitude, there’s a lot to explore here.

And for the space nerds (we see you), Gemini was also the name of NASA’s pre-Apollo missions. Two astronauts squeezed into a capsule the size of a compact car, orbiting Earth and testing out the skills that would eventually land us on the Moon. It’s a beautiful metaphor for collaboration, tension, and trust—which also sounds a lot like trying to finish an Inktober prompt before midnight.

Remember, this challenge is about getting back to the roots of drawing: ink on paper, no fuss. It’s not about perfection. It’s about process, play, and giving yourself permission to try something bold (or strange… or both).

So go ahead—draw the stars, the astronauts, the mischief-makers, or that bizarre idea that only makes sense to you and your sketchbook. Just make sure you’ve got a pen in hand and some paper nearby. Gemini's calling, and it's got twice the inspiration.

Let’s get inky."

"That’s right—time to embrace the weird, wonderful world of mushrooms, molds, spores, and all the other squishy, shadow-dwelling lifeforms that pop up when you least expect them. Whether you're sketching a fairytale toadstool, a moody shelf fungus, or just a mushroom with a great personality, this is your sign to let loose and get a little spore-tastic.

Inktober is all about returning to the roots—ink, paper, and the kind of quiet focus that doesn’t come with an undo button. So put the tablet down, shake out your pens, and get weird with it. Try some hatching, cross-hatching, maybe even… stippling (we see you overachievers). There’s something deeply satisfying about coaxing a whole little ecosystem out of black ink and white space.

Let your lines meander like roots underground, or stand bold like a lone chanterelle in a sea of leaf litter. Just don’t be afraid to lean into the strange—fungi are nature’s original oddballs, after all. Go forth, draw boldly, and remember: if someone says your art looks like mold, you’re probably on the right track."

"Get ready to unleash your inner doodlehound, because it's time to ink some four-legged fluffballs. Whether you sketch a mischievous mutt mid-zoomie, a pampered pooch in a pearl collar, or a pup so abstract it makes Picasso bark—this prompt is your chance to sit, stay, and draw. Remember: Inktober is all about ink, paper, and going back to the basics, so leave the digital bones behind and let those pens wag with joy. Now go fetch some inspiration!"

"This week’s prompt is here, and it’s tiptoeing in under a trench coat. Sneaky is your chance to channel the art of covert creativity—think kids on each other’s shoulders, wobbling in an oversized coat, trying to pass as a very suspicious “adult” at the box office. Inktober is all about getting back to basics with ink and paper, and this week invites you to explore the shifty, the sly, and the suspicious with nothing but black lines and bold imagination. Whether it’s a cat burglar, a squirrel stealing snacks, or a masterpiece in mischief—draw it like you weren’t supposed to. 🖤"

"Get ready to charge into creativity, folks—this week's prompt is TAURUS! Whether you’re sketching celestial bulls or just stubbornly refusing to use anything but ink and paper, it’s time to let your pen do the charging. Channel that earthy determination, embrace the beautiful chaos of ink smudges, and remember: horns aren’t just for bulls—they’re for boldly announcing your return to the basics. Now go forth and draw something that says “I’m grounded, I’m stubborn, and I look fabulous in black and white.” Let’s get bull-ish about art! 🐂🖤"

"Time to channel your inner inky landscape artist and capture those breathtaking views—mountains, deserts, cityscapes, or even the surreal dreamscapes that live in your head. Whether it’s a vast horizon inked with delicate linework or a moody, high-contrast scene that looms with drama, this is your chance to show the world what a vista looks like in black and white. No color, no shortcuts—just ink, imagination, and a whole lot of dramatic perspective. Let’s see what epic scenes unfold from your pen! 🖤"

"This week’s Inktober 52 prompt is… AXOLOTL! That’s right, the underwater salamander that looks like it belongs in a fantasy novel and a science textbook at the same time. With those feathery gills and permanent smile, it’s basically begging to be immortalized in black ink. So whether you’re cross-hatching every squishy detail or going bold with dramatic shadows and surreal twists, let those ink lines flow like an axolotl through a mountain stream. Just remember: no color, just glorious ink. Let’s see what weird, wonderful, wet little creatures you bring to life this week! 🖤"

"Sharpen your pencils and ready your longships, because this week’s Inktober52 prompt is VIKING! Whether you're raiding your sketchbook for bold new ideas or setting sail into uncharted inky waters, it’s time to channel your inner Norse spirit. Helmets (with or without horns—we won't judge), beards, battle cries, and longboats are all fair game. So grab your tools like a true ink-conqueror and drawr your way to glory. Skål to another legendary week of creativity!"

"It’s time to bring bold, fiery energy to your art! Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, is ruled by Mars and symbolizes passion, courage, and determination. You can take this prompt in many directions—illustrate the Aries constellation with dazzling stars, draw a fierce ram charging forward, or capture the dynamic, unstoppable spirit of an Aries personality. Think flames, warriors, leaders, or anything that embodies fearless ambition. Whether you go cosmic, mythological, or personal, let that Aries fire ignite your creativity! 🔥♈"

This is great!

"This word with sharp edges and deep meaning. Will you depict the clean slice of a sword, the bittersweet farewell of a broken connection, or something more… mysterious? Perhaps a workplace where minds are split, where the lines between memory and reality are as crisp as a conference room’s fluorescent glow. Maybe you'll sketch something symbolic—chains breaking, ties cut, or even a lone office worker staring at a suspiciously out-of-place herd of goats. (Why are they there? Best not to ask.) Or maybe you’ll follow a long, black hallway leading to an elevator, one that opens not just between floors but between lives. However you interpret it, let your pen carve out something unforgettable. 🐐"

"🤸‍♂️ Whether you’re thinking of daring aerial maneuvers, jaw-dropping skateboard tricks, or a mischievous prank gone wrong, this word is packed with action. Another +1 for Arctic.

I was using Mlem and Voyager before, but when I tried Arctic out I really enjoyed how it played well with video posts (excluding youtube, they just load and you can view them without navigating away) whereas the others would open the link through the in app browser.

Edit: Mlem just got an update/overhaul so it may be worth checking out as well.
